Job Description

Newport News Shipbuilding has an opportunity for an Engineer to join their team! Candidates should have; interest in learning engineering/design processes relating to ship systems (specifically submarine machinery equipment and fluid systems); and the ability to inteve work with other internal/external design and/or test engineering personnel; including NAVSEA, Naval shipyards, General Dynamics-Electric Boat, vendors, etc. Technical submittals of design proposals, engineering calculations and analyses, drawing reviews, presentations, operating instructions, test procedures, maintenance procedures, work deferral requests, departure from specification requests, etc. will be required. On-site resolution of issues encountered during construction or overhaul may be required, possibly resulting in some travel.

This benchmark is intended to be used by companies that have generic classifications engaged in research and/or product development encompassing primarily one or more of the following engineering disciplines: electronics, electrical, mechanical, and/or chemical.

Basic Qualifications

0 Years with Bachelors in Science- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A basic knowledge of dimensional control systems and practices is also highly desirable
  • Effective oral and written communication skills are important for this position.
  • Employee will ideally to be capable of accessing boats under construction (i.e. climbing ladders, bending, etc.)
