Paralegal, Global Investigations and Regulatory Enforcement

The job holder will play a key role in supporting attorneys and forensic accountants in the Global Investigations and Regulatory Enforcement ("GIRE") team. GIRE is a specialist team within HSBC Group Legal that leads matters involving significant government-facing and internal investigations.

Candidates should have an interest in regulatory enforcement, white-collar criminal matters, and complex cross-border investigations within a global financial institution whose operations span more than 60 countries and territories around the world.

This role is eligible to work remotely across the United States.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Carrying out key aspects of GIRE's investigations work. This may include:
    • Assisting with case intake process.
    • Gathering material from HSBC systems and from other HSBC departments (and tracking requests for same).
    • Reviewing and summarizing material, including electronic communications, account records, transaction records, trade data, and other data types.
    • Conducting open-source and public database research.
    • Developing expertise in certain data types.
    • Documenting compliance with cross-border data transfer controls.
    • Assisting with witness interviews and drafting interview memoranda.
    • Preparation of case-specific and thematic briefing materials.
    • Managing investigation documentation.
    • Supporting GIRE in the management of external legal counsel and other external vendors. This may include:
    • Helping to onboard external counsel and other vendors.
    • Helping to manage and track external legal spend.
    • Working with providers of e-discovery and managed-review services.
  • Compiling and coordinating internal reporting.
  • Preparing trainings, papers, and other thought-leadership exercises


Qualifications

Employment eligibility to work with HSBC in the U.S. is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Eagerness to learn and willingness to ask questions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Creative and practical problem-solving.
  • Ability to contribute to team efforts while also being able to work independently with little supervision.
  • Ability to succeed in high pressure environment with competing priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with Thompson Reuters Legal Tracker a plus.
  • Foreign-language proficiency a plus.
  • A litigation background is helpful but not required.
