Lead Sales Engineer

Job Description

Lead, Sales Engineering Team assumes day to day responsibilities of the sales engineering function; development and implementation of new market segment strategies and technical solutions to internal and external key stakeholders to drive market verticals sales growth. Oversees project engineering management of complexed sales leads and appropriate market solutions and engineering work requests, utilizes industry trends, engineering best practices, cost efficiencies and applicable codes and standards. Responsible for overseeing content and delivery of appropriate engineering solutions and technical training modules to internal and external audiences to drive sales.

Tasks and Responsibilities
• Leads and develops team of Sales Engineers from entry to senior levels, engineering new business projects of all scopes and sizes to drive new business growth
• Drive sales engineering collaboration and coordination with internal and external audiences to review and evaluate the effectiveness of new and existing technical solutions, processes, guidelines, policies, engineering standards and codes to increase company revenues
• Leads sales engineering generation of new and maintenance of existing relationships with key external audiences to determine engineering best practices, cost effective and technically feasible design solutions
• Leads preparation and review of economic models and analysis for competing energy sources, and engineering cost-effective designs to influence customer decision-making
• Leads identification, development, implementation of new energy technologies and marketing tools, demonstrating cost benefits and applicable applications
• Leads company cross-function collaborations to identify and implement engineering alternatives to meet customer requirements
• Analyzes, generates and approves technical reports identifying project costs, energy usage, equipment operational cost, and sustainability emissions, estimated cost studies to increase sales closure rates, marketing effectiveness and answer to data requests for legal rate cases
• Leads tracking of market vertical data to keep the Company informed of significant market changes or trends that may impede gas installations
• Oversees day to day workload and completion of sales engineering work requests and energy analyses to ensure project advances through sales cycle to meter installation
• Develops and delivers training programs detailing market attributes of specific gas-fired equipment and energy analysis to sales staff and to external design community to drive market sales
• Leads sales engineering field site surveys and engineering designs of internal building natural gas pipe designs; serves as subject matter expert for technical solutions and guidance during gas pipe installation
• Participates in the resolution of code-related (IFGC, IMC, IBC, DOT, WSSC, Local Agencies, etc.) issues
• Responsible for the training of new sales engineering staff to grow skills and part of the onboarding process

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
• Bachelor's Degree Engineering
• 7+ Years relevant engineering experience
• 2+ Years team leadership or project management experience
• At least one (1) year of expereince of the following areas (1-4):
• 1) CEM, CEA, or LEED principles for energy modeling
• 2) Combustion equipment technologies and construction best practices
• 3) gas piping engineering
• 4) developing and delivery of training modules relevant to gas pipeline engineering
• Project Management Certification, PMP is preferred
• Advanced degree in a business-related field, engineering, or a sales professional certification, preferred
• An energy-related certification such as CEM, CEA or LEED, preferred
• In lieu of energy certificate, demonstrated advanced working knowledge of energy, mechanical and building codes applicable to energy equipment, its installation, and associated building designs, preferred
• Related theoretical/engineering or technical experience in the HVAC/building construction industries, required
• Outside sales experience, including demonstrated successful experience identifying, analyzing and meeting customer requirements and expectations, required
• Working knowledge and practicing of AutoCAD or equivalent CAD software, energy modeling software, required
• Demonstrated ability to successfully negotiate business agreements and to resolve disputes with both internal and external business partners, required
• Demonstrated ability to effectively evaluate multiple scenarios and to implement effective solutions to broadly defined business problems, preferred
• Demonstrated ability to present ideas logically and concisely to diverse audiences, both verbally and in writing, required
• Demonstrated understanding of principles of energy engineering, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and combustion preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to establish rapport and effective working relationships, preferred
• Proficiency operating computer information technology, software and applications, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and PowerBI or Tableau, to calculate, analyze, share, retrieve, research and present business information. Experience using work management system, GIS systems, and CRM systems preferred.
