Pre-Doctoral Researcher

Provide support to the principal investigator in the Advanced Mobility and Grid Integration Technology Research at the Center for Transportation Research. Assist in developing and administering experimental evaluations and conducting analysis of high-power electric vehicle and electric vehicle charging system processes. These efforts will involve implementing unique software models that include high power electric vehicles, coupled charging systems, and power distribution infrastructure. Design and develop simulation and hardware-in-the-loop experiments that integrate electric distribution models with laboratory charging systems and vehicles. Programming languages and analysis tools along with strong knowledge of vehicle operation and testing methodologies will be leveraged to support activities in this position.

Position Requirements:
  • This position requires a recent master's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Skills using real-time simulation tools for closed/open loop experiments. (Including but not limited to Simulink, and RT-LAB via OPAL-RT hardware.)
  • Understanding of electrical distribution system dynamics and grid condition analysis.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong organizational skills in managing complex data sets and analysis code so that documentation of results and reports are easily understood and shared.
  • Ability to use various computer-based data analysis and visualization languages and application (including but not limited to Python and common Python libraries, MATLAB).
  • Knowledge of database interaction, information extraction, and data manipulation.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills at all levels of the organization.
  • A successful candidate must have the ability to model Argonne's Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.

This level of knowledge and skill is typically achieved through graduate college courses in electrical power systems engineering
