Job Summary

This is a first level supervisory position in the T&D Relay Protection - Provide supervision for the application of protective relay settings and relay / controls testing. Oversee the activities of Relay Technicians in order to ensure safe and efficient application of relay settings and associated testing. Supervise the application and testing of relay and controls systems.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

·Responsible for work coordinator function for Substation Protection group maintenance and capital work plan. Efficient use of resources and develop and coordination of system clearances with Operations.

·Responsible for supervising relay technicians.

·Responsible for the installation, maintenance and commissioning of all protective relaying, supervisory control, telemetry, and for the transmission and distribution systems.

·Responsible for the daily supervision and organization of assigned operations personnel in order to effectively and efficiently accomplish job tasks in line with departmental and LIPA OSA / PSEG LI requirements.

·Participates in supervisor’s 24 hour standby schedule for consultation and advice to others on protective relay issues and for dispatching relay technicians during emergencies. Overtime expected as warranted to support system events and project work.

·Prepares and executes maintenance schedules and testing procedures to insure proper operations of electrical protective devices, instrumentation and automatic control equipment.

·Coordinate and commission the installation of new protection systems and coordinate with other disciplines to integrate within clearance restrictions while maintaining adequate protection.

·Provide Emergency restoration support.

Job Specific Qualifications

Required

B.S. in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 3 years related experience in relay and controls

OR candidates without a Bachelor’s degree must have a minimum of 5 years related experience in relay and controls, protection engineering, or protection operations

Must have an in-depth working knowledge of electro-mechanical, microprocessor equipment and the associated protection schemes.

Ability to read and comprehend technical and operational manuals and instructions, safety rules, policies and procedures, and instruction manuals

Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics drawings.

This position requires driving to company locations and off-site assignments and events, applicants must possess a valid US driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driver history.

Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

Preferred

B.S. in Electrical Engineering

Relay protection setting and design criteria

Experience working in a Union environment is a plus.

Knowledgeable in SAP.

Knowledge of the Collective Bargaining agreement.

Supervision of union workforce
