How? Become an NPI Project Manager at Abbott in Arecibo, Puerto Rico.

As an NPI Project Manager you will be responsible for the successful initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, controlling and closure of multiple New Product Introduction projects through to production. The incumbent must have a combination of skills including an ability to ask penetrating questions, detect unstated assumptions and resolve conflicts, as well as more general management and leadership skills.

  • Manage integrated project teams, including sub-contractors, to deliver projects on time, on cost and to quality.
  • Use phase gated NPI project toolkit.
  • Hold regular team project status reviews for individual projects. Update project metrics. Refocus teams as necessary to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Leads project team comprised of internal and external resources. Performs periodic review of project resource allocation.
  • Maintain an overview of all assigned projects and communicate status with Management.
  • Hold project gate reviews in line with project timing and NPI process requirements and meet all deliverables on time
  • Be the conduit between the company and its customers, liaison and reporting of project status, issues and actions.
  • Participate in corrective action requests, root cause analysis, problem-solving teams as related to issues affecting the project.
  • Is the 'voice of the customer' for all their projects
  • Assists with integration of common tools and techniques across divisions.
  • Anticipates and identifies areas of tactical and strategic risk and mitigates risks through early risk assessments and implementation of fallback / mitigation strategies.
  • COMPLIANCE: Complies with all regulations and standards for quality, Environmental, Health, Safety, and Energy (EHS&E) Global Policies, Abbott Engineering Standards, and other governance areas as applicable. Ensures quality and effectiveness of key results of major projects through sound design and project management processes. Has full awareness of the potential consequences (defects and failure modes) of design changes.
  • ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE: Coaches others in performing support tasks, such as writing Requests for Capital Expenditures (RCEs), safety / quality checklists, scope documents, etc. Anticipates and resolves problems and crisis situations requiring fast, astute decisions with rapid implementation by utilizing technical training and / or experience. Provides oversight to the overall validation strategy and execution.


To be successful in this role, you will require the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree in Engineering, science, or closely related discipline is desired.
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering and / or operational experience. Experience with Capital pr and a technical background in regulated industries.
