Associate Chemist III - Nights

To coordinate, conduct and document training of team members in the Analytical Lab. This person will be expected to support the routine testing, batch audits, batch standardization or other projects as needed. The Analytical Trainer will provide support for all shifts. This person will be knowledgeable of all test methods and can troubleshoot and communicate effective decision making to newer teammates. This person will be responsible for developing training tools and updating existing tools, coordinating training, media/supply needs with the shifts that are working in the lab. The Analytical Trainer shall be able to make decisions pertaining to the Analytical lab's training program with minimal supervision. Teamwork and coordination with lab FLL's is essential to the success in this role.

Please note: This is a night shift position from 6:30 pm to 7:00 am and allows you to have every other weekend off. Hours and days are below AFTER you are fully trained. Training will be during day shift hours.

Main responsibilities:

Conduct the needed training for Analytical lab employees to assist them in being signed off on all applicable Analytical lab methods.

Conduct training for Analytical lab employees to assist them in being signed off on all equipment preventive maintenance and instrument trouble-shooting activities for the Analytical lab instruments.

Accurately document training in the Analytical Lab training matrix, updating progress of training to FLLs and the Training department.

Actively shares training information with FLL's and Lab manager.

Clear communication of daily training goals to lab team on shift. Planning and scheduling training and assessments with team to balance timing with daily tasks which will take priority for space, instruments/equipment, etc.

Routine testing of samples, verification of batches, standardization of batches as needed by the labs.

Demonstrate knowledge of applicable safety/quality standard and practices required in the manufacturing of Abbott Nutrition products.

Follows and work within GMP/GLP and/or Safety requirements at all times in accordance with established company policies.

Reports problems on a timely and accurate basis and reports out training progress weekly to FLL. Seeks additional assistance if obstacles arise or if problems are beyond area of personal expertise.

Promote lab best practices and help communicate between shifts efficient workload balancing practices to support less experienced team members.

Manages workload to maintain effectiveness and productivity.

Communicates downtime caused by training on instrument/equipment and report issues to FLL.

Maintain Analytical Lab Job Aids and training Assessment documents.

Perform new hire assessment for GMP and Chemical modules.

Develop a personal relationship with Technical training technicians for the benefit of Abbott.

Is a proactive member of the team and as such, looks for opportunities or training gaps, process improvements, and maintains a preventive attitude.

Performing other duties as assigned or required by lab management.


This position requires knowledge of quality lab practices, effective communication, business and manufacturing principles to give scalable guidance to all team members.

Ability to flex their schedule to work 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift. Primary schedule will be on 2nd or 3rd shift.

This person must have the knowledge and experience in Analytical methods, LIMS, and/or practical decision making and troubleshooting. Can handle multiple projects and issues, versed in methods to improve efficiencies.

Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, influencing and collaboration skills, advanced problem-solving skills and Project management skills.

Ability to work off shifts and weekends to support production needs. This position is planned for primarily 2nd shift, 8 hours a day and 5 days a week, but schedule flexibility to meet the training needs for the lab is required.
