Job Description

Our Manufacturing Division IT Applied Mathematics & Modeling Data Science Leader is responsible for driving our applied mathematics and modeling organization in partnership with manufacturing business to leverage data and information to bring insights enabling value generating business decisions.

The team consists of experts in multiple disciplines including computational fluid dynamics, mechanistic modeling, mathematical optimization, simulation, machine learning, and computer vision. The candidate will understand business needs, understand where applied mathematics can be best utilized and ensure the team is deployed to the highest value opportunities. The candidate will be responsible for a direct line organization, as well as directing other global resources. The candidate will collaborate with our Manufacturing Division IT peers to ensure data science capabilities are deployed to the product teams where best leveraged. The candidate will work closely with our foundational data & analytics organization to ensure alignment and connection with enterprise capabilities.

Primary activities & responsibilities:
• Understand the manufacturing partners business needs/priorities and ensure resources are allocated to highest value opportunities. Establish and manage the close relationship with stakeholders.
• Defines the team strategy as a part of the overall organization strategy and contributes to the strategy discussions of the business partners in the area of advanced analytics.
• Mentor staff in building solutions that support our business goals.
• Collaborate with our Manufacturing Division IT peers to ensure applied mathematics and modeling resources are allocated to product squads where their expertise can be maximized.
• Ensures sharing of best practices and work products in the applied mathematics & modeling ecosystem at our Company, drives organization to participate in the broader our Company ecosystem.
• Participates in the definition of complex analytics projects working with teams to propose the right approach/methodology.
• Understands the data science / applied mathematics ecosystem and explores new ways of delivering analytics solutions to increase their value/contribution
• Contributes to innovative experiments, specifically to idea generation, idea incubation and/or experimentation, identifying tangible and measurable criteria and associated potential value.
• Promote a culture of modelling and analytics as a differentiator and competitive advantage.

Education Minimum:
• Bachelors Degree or advanced degree in data science, mathematics, statistics, or computer science or related fields; PhD strongly preferred

• 8 + years of experience in delivery of complex analytical solutions used to solve business problems
• 5 + years of leading an advanced analytics and/or applied mathematics and modeling team
• Proven ability to drive organizational change
• Strong communication skills with ability to align the organization on complex technical decisions
• Technologist with deep insight into newest technologies and trends in applied mathematics and modeling
• Proficiency in applied mathematics and modeling capabilities such as (statistical, quantitative, and forecasting/predictive analytics, multivariate testing, and optimization algorithms multi-method modeling and simulation, optimization; economic decision analysis; algorithm development, data integration, mining, and visualization of complex data)

Preferred Skills:
• Proven knowledge of business processes and industry/market trends within the pharmaceutical space
• Excellent business acumen, with proven ability to understand business processes in detail - both at global and region/country levels
• Proven negotiation skills, along with good problem-solving skills
• Knowledge of existing manufacturing systems, their interconnections and the business value they provide
• Awareness of relevant industry business, information and technology trends in applied mathematics and modeling, in and out of pharma
