Job Description

Our Supply Chain team ensures inventory is consistently available to meet customer demand. We coordinate all aspects of supply through supply planning, sourcing, making, inventory management, packaging and delivery. We partner across the Marketing, Finance and Manufacturing organizations to build a robust demand and supply plan and ensure we get products to the right customer, at the place, at the right time.

As part of our Company's Supply Chain organization, the Specialist Buyer & Planner will be responsible for the purchase of all GMP materials through SAP ECC, non-GMP materials/service purchase orders through Arriba and purchasing card expenses necessary to support all site manufacturing and quality operations. The SBP supports the Integrated Process Teams (IPT) and will plan, create and release purchase orders to procure materials to support the production schedule; and work closely with suppliers to ensure on-time deliveries. This position is responsible for monitoring raw material inventory levels; ensuring sufficient inventory is available to support manufacturing while managing inventory level financial targets.

Responsibilities
  • Primarily responsible for creating, and/or releasing and maintaining purchase orders to support all IPT production and ancillary requirements as driven by demands conveyed through SAP
  • Converts purchasing requisitions and releases purchase orders to suppliers for a wide range of materials
  • Proactively identifies material gaps and works closely with suppliers to ensure materials are delivered on time. Works closely with Durham, Elkton, WestPoint and contract labs to ensure testing and release are aligned with production need dates
  • Identifies and communicates supply delays to downstream colleagues and planning manager
  • Reviews MRP outputs and makes adjustments
  • Monitors inventory levels to avoid excess inventory, inventory shortages and/or inventory expirations
  • Supports Quality and Procurement in the resolution of supplier quality and delivery performance issues
  • Initiates tasks associated with facility start up and new product introduction, including establishing new vendors, requesting quotes, and planning for development and start up batches
  • Manage the expiring material review process and create FA33's for materials that require discard
  • Assists Finance and Procurement in the reconciliation of disputed invoices and payments to suppliers
  • Updates Inventory of Questionable Value (IQV) process to provide clear visibility of on-hand inventory which may not be usable due to quality or other issues
  • Proactive in resolving or escalating material shortages which have the potential to impact production
  • Utilizes Lean Six Sigma principles and methodologies to minimize waste, reduce costs and shorten cycle times


Education
  • Bachelor Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations, Engineering or a comparable field ORa High School Diploma/GED Degree with five plus years working in operations, quality, purchasing, procurement and/or supply chain materials management


Required
  • Minimum two years working in Planning, Procurement, Supply Chain, Materials Management, Engineering, and/or Operations for degreed candidates and five years for non-degreed candidates as indicated above under education
  • Capable of adapting in a very dynamic environment
  • General knowledge of Planning and Purchasing processes as well as Material Requirements Planning (MRP) principles and methodologies
  • SAP
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strategic and strong planning, organizational, documentation and communication skills
  • Work in a cross-functional team and to manage complex projects and tasks
  • Produces/completes various assignments requiring analytical ability, independent judgment, creativity and problem-solving skills


Preferred
  • Pharmaceutical industry or other GMP regulated industry
  • APICS or CPIM certification
  • Lean Six Sigma
  • Working in a start-up launch environment or experience with new product introduction
  • Collaborative team player with a strong positive attitude to maintain focus in difficult situations
