Positions in this function are accountable for a broad range of reporting, analytics and data solutions. This position offers the opportunity to join an emerging department that is working to dramatically improve the healthcare experience.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Researching, designing, implementing and deploying scalable AI/machining learning or statistical models to support clinical operations
  • Analyze health care spend and utilization to identify key trend drivers, perform root cause analyses and data mining to evaluate medical cost savings opportunities
  • Develop analyses to inform models to project/measure the financial impact of initiatives.
  • Develop reports to track ongoing performance of clinical programs
  • Provide consultation to the clinical program team on appropriate data sources and analytic approach for identifying key trend drivers and evaluating potential interventions to impact trends
  • Communicate progress, findings, and analysis in written, oral and graphic form to executive and clinical leaders
  • Prepare exhibits for presentation to key stakeholders and present analyses to business stakeholders in an understandable manner in order to advance projects and transform data into actionable outcomes
  • Work with clinical program teams to create novel ways of capturing clinical information through claims systems and prior authorization data or other health care management tools
  • Develop and maintain project plans including written specifications of tasks, expected timelines, and deliverables consistent with the team deadlines
  • Collaborate with internal subject matter experts to effectively expand team capabilities and advance projects more quickly
  • Anticipate customer needs and proactively develop solutions to meet them
  • Solve complex problems and develop innovative solutions

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in epidemiology, statistics, economics, medical informatics, health services research, data science, engineering or other relevant quantitative field
  • 2+ years of experience in healthcare setting, preferably in a managed healthcare company
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in developing analytics with machine learning, deep learning, NLP and/or other related modeling techniques
  • 5+ years of experience utilizing SQL based RDBMS (SQL Server, Oracle, Teradata, MySQL)
  • 3+ years SAS and SQL programming experience
  • 1+ years of experience using data science tools such as Python, R, Spark and H2O
  • Experience presenting to Executive Level Management team


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or higher in a relevant field or equivalent experience
  • Experience mining large data sets
  • Experience in Power BI
  • Experience of deploying models in production
  • Solid understanding of relational database fundamentals
  • Solid project management skills
  • Experience with analytical file construction, maintenance, and governance
  • Solid understanding of clinical management activities of a large managed healthcare organization
  • Experience in one or more specific clinical areas desirable

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The Salary range for Colorado residents is $79,700 to $142,600. The Salary range for Connecticut/Nevada residents is $87.900 to $156,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
