The Respiratory Therapist (RT) or Respiratory Care Practitioner (TCP) provides respiratory care procedures under physician's direction specifically focused on the assessment, treatment, management, control, diagnostic evaluation, education and care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system, as well as, on the prevention of the development of these deficiencies. Therapy includes but is no limited to the application and monitoring of medical gases and environmental control systems; mechanical ventilator support; artificial airway care; bronchopulmonary hygiene; pharmacological agents related to respiratory care procedures for the car of adults 18 to 65 and geriatric patients over 65 year old.

Required Qualifications:
  • Delivers Respiratory equipment to patient's home or sets up equipment in the Branch office in accordance with accepted clinical practices and established policies and procedures
  • Major Responsibilities include:
    • Airway management including nasotracheal and tracheal suctioning
    • Ventilator Management (i.e., setup, operation and education)
    • Education on proper use of aerosolized drugs
    • Education on proper oral hygiene
    • Airway retaining device: placement and maintenance
    • Airway support device management including CPAP and BiPAP devices
    • Oxygen delivery devices and therapeutic monitoring
  • Instructs patients, caregivers and/or nursing staff in the proper use, disinfection, maintenance and safety of all respiratory equipment and supplies. The focus of patient and family education activities is to promote knowledge of disease process, medical therapy and self-help
  • Performs respiratory assessments and oximetry tests, when indicated, and recommends appropriate equipment and services to physicians and nursing staff
  • Assesses the home environment to include safety, storage facilities, cleanliness and ability to support the equipment (e.g. refrigeration, electricity, etc)
  • Conducts scheduled patient and equipment follow-up, including trouble-shooting and service calls
  • Prepares a written plan of care for new patients as per Policy for all Vent and BiPAP ST in conjunction with the physician, patient and caregiver(s). Sets goals of therapy and evaluates effectiveness of treatment and outcomes of care at pre-arranged intervals adjusting treatment, as needed, to achieve maximum benefit
  • Identifies and addresses barriers to desired outcomes
  • The RT works with other disciplines to ensure a collaborative approach to the patient care
  • Accurate and complete documentation to conform to CHAP Accreditation
  • Cleaning and stocking of equipment and supplies, as necessary
  • Ordering and warehousing of equipment and supplies for the Branch Office
  • Provides in-service education to staff and referral sources on equipment operation, care and maintenance
  • Participate in local, state, federal and CHAP Surveys. The RT/RCP may function or serve in the capacity of Corporate Lead Respiratory Therapist
  • Advance Practice Skills may Include:
    • COPD Program management and monitoring
    • CHF Program management and monitoring
    • Trachostomy Program management and monitoring
    • HST Program management and monitoring
  • Establishes a trusting relationship with patients, caregivers, co-workers, clinic staff members and physicians
  • Exhibits professionalism and is courteous with all patients, physicians and co-workers
  • Demonstrates knowledge and observance of the Patient's Bill of Rights and Notice of Privacy Practices
  • Follows all infection control standard precautions and safety guidelines/standards as per policy
  • Participates in educational programs and all required in-service programs to maintain comprehensive Respiratory knowledge base, as assigned by supervisor
  • Complies with all Homecare Dimensions, Inc. HME Policies and Procedures. Promotes and maintains an agency environment that is in compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies. Participates in the agency's endeavors for accreditation, licensing and professional recognition according to state, federal and/or CHAP's requirements
  • Maintains a patient case load, daily visits and point of care documentation levels as per HME Department standards
  • Demonstrates personal responsibility with regard to attendance and punctuality
  • Maintains privacy and confidentiality with regard to all patient, staff and company information
  • Demonstrates flexibility, enthusiasm and willingness to cooperate while working with others or in place of others, as necessary
  • Expresses verbal and written communication in a clear, positive and cooperative manner
  • Promotes the company's image by adhering to the Dress Code
  • Participates with the on-call rotation schedule and weekends as assigned
  • Performs all other respiratory related duties, as assigned
  • Maintains RT licensure current, at all times, and in good standing with the National Board for Respiratory Therapy
  • Maintains CPR Certification through the American Heart Association active at all times
  • Maintain driver's license and automobile insurance current/active at all times

Required Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited registered respiratory therapy program
  • Current licensure as a Respiratory Therapist in good standing with the National Board for Respiratory Therapists
  • 2+ years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist
  • Ability to define problem, collect data, establish facts, interpret an extensive variety of technical, medical, regulatory instruction and deal with numerous issues to draw valid conclusions
  • Reliable transportation, automobile insurance and current driver's license in the state of employment
  • Ability to travel extensively within the Agency's service area
  • Ability to interact productively with individuals and with multidisciplinary teams
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential requirement of this role. UnitedHealth Group will adhere to all federal, state and local regulations as well as all client requirements and will obtain necessary proof of vaccination prior to employment to ensure compliance

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist in a HME company dealing with an adult population
  • 1+ years of Critical Care Experience
  • HME/DME experience
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) language proficiency
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills

Physical & Mental Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (must be able to lift and transfer patients from one location to the other, if necessary).
  • Ability to push or pull heavy objects using up to 50 pounds of force
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to use fine motor skills to operate office equipment and/or machinery
  • Ability to properly drive and operate a company/personal vehicle
  • Ability to receive and comprehend instructions verbally and/or in writing
  • Ability to use logical reasoning for simple and complex situations
