Manager Energy Supply

Are you someone with a energy supply background looking for another challenge? WGL is seeking a Manager of Energy Supply. You will be responsible for managing the implementation of the supply and transportation activities for Washington Gas customers, overseeing the team responsible for the execution of prudent purchasing (daily, monthly, seasonal), scheduling on the interstate pipelines, confirming supply deliveries from third party, and capacity releases. This position will be active with FERC proceedings and the subsequent impact to rates.

You Will

  • Manage the execution of seasonal, monthly, daily supply purchases of natural gas. Accountable for gas supplies, including provider of last resort supply obligations.
  • Oversee a team of pipeline schedulers responsible for the scheduling process, confirming deliveries, investigating cuts, and contacting suppliers for any mismatches.
  • Track storage activity and balances, knows rules and ratchets, and shares information with the team.
  • Ensure an accurate supply tracking process for Competitive Service Providers (CSPs).
  • Monitor the records in the marketer portal to ensure accurate customer allocations and compliance with program. Provides a high level of customer service and is responsive to marketer requests.
  • Pipe Balancing, Tracking, Settlements. Oversees the use of contracts both by the Supply team and by the agent for the Asset Optimization program.
  • Provide oversight of the pipeline rates including seasonal changes to fuel and commodity as well as demand rate changes. Supports any budgeting for demand charges or gas costs.
  • Support green procurement initiatives including certified gas (CG)/responsibly sourced gas (RSG), renewable natural gas (RNG) and hydrogen.
  • Provide accurate and timely responses to data requests and provide support analysis and narratives for regulatory proceedings and audits.
  • Help transform and lead the supply department processes by streamlining and consolidating reports/spreadsheets and implementing systems.

You Must Have

  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering, Accounting, Finance, Mathematics, Computer Science with 7+ years of work experience in a natural gas utility environment
  • Master's Degree preferred
  • 2+ years people management
  • In depth knowledge of east cost procurement processes for natural gas supply planning strategy for a regulated utility environment.
  • Complete understanding of gas supply process specifically related to nominations, scheduling, confirmations, storage ratchets, contract entitlements and penalty provisions. Economic and financial analysis methods used to evaluate proposals.
  • Ability to anticipate changes in the marketplace and discipline to develop contingencies in preparation for such possibilities.
