There is an immediate opening for a full-time Engineering Specialist at our Dahlgren, Virginia office. This individual will be members of a team responsible for providing technical support for the installation, maintenance, removal and documentation of Radar Absorbent Material (RAM) for the shipboard EMI mitigation.

Responsibilities

  • Install, replace, maintain, and dispose of E3 RAM, using procedures and techniques described in governing documentation.
  • Fabrication of RAM barriers.
  • Perform RAM and RAM barrier installations on various class US Navy ships worldwide.
  • Use various hand tools and power tools, such as drills, impact wrenches, and saws to perform RAM work.
  • Painting and caulking of RAM.
  • Travel to US Navy ports worldwide to accomplish shipboard RAM work.
  • Construct wooden shipping crates for RAM barriers.
  • Other duties that may be assigned to meet company and departmental goals and objectives.

Material & Equipment Directly Used

  • Must be able to work in Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) as required, including safety harness, hard hat, safety glasses and hearing protection.
  • Must perform routine physical labor; moving materials, tools, and/or equipment; and operating various types of tools, such as, pneumatic, electric, and hand; brush roll or hand brush painting.
  • Will require the application of paint and caulking.
  • A basic knowledge of Windows desktop systems is required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as Outlook, Word and Excel is highly preferred.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. Must be able to work in a shipboard environment, to include working aloft. The employee will normally work in a non-temperature-controlled shipboard environment, with frequent exposure to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. An employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES: Physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be required to sit, talk and/or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger to feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may be required to work on shipboard superstructures in excess of 100 feet above the water. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

  • All candidates must have an active SECRET DoD Security Clearance.
  • OSHA 10 required or willing to obtain.

Experience: Specific experience in the area of shipboard RAM barrier fabrication, and RAM installation and maintenance is required.

Additional Related Experience Is Desired.

  • Candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • He/she must be able to work in a shipboard environment, to include working aloft. Must be able to work in Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) as required, including safety harness, hard hat, safety glasses and hearing protection.
  • He/she must perform routine physical labor; moving materials, tools, and/or equipment; and operating various types of tools, such as, pneumatic, electric, and hand; brush roll or hand brush painting.
  • Must be organized and have good housekeeping habits.
  • Must be able to travel and work weekdays, weekends, holidays, day or evening hours.
  • Extensive travel (domestic and some international) is required.
