What You Will Achieve

The Strategic Sourcing Lead is a new role in GCS responsible to shape, develop, and enable execution of sourcing strategies that will advance and grow the GCS business. The scope of the role is to identify, evaluate and select suppliers to provide executable service solutions that meet the ideal fit for any project within the end-to-end Supply chain. The role will focus on several key accountabilities: 1) identification and development of strategic sourcing vendor capabilities that build resilience and agility in the GCS Supply Chain; 2) lead workstreams related to key strategic issues; 3) provide insight from market signals that could impact business performance or strategic direction; and 4) deliver new business models which provide agile planning and network flexibility.

In addition to exemplary sourcing and demand management practices, supplier relationship management, and risk management, this role requires significant data analysis, industry trending, and benchmarking to ensure proactive and innovative strategies are delivered in a timely manner aligned with current and future business requirements.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Maximize the value of sourcing activities and service provider relationships for Pfizer Global Clinical Supply in partnership with GCS leaders
  • Co-develop, pilot, and implement strategic sourcing models that deliver GCS products for the lifecycle of clinical development programs
  • C onduct market research into services that provide competitive advantage to GCS, formulate sourcing strategies, project manage teams and develop implementation plans to deliver value for stakeholder lines.
  • Define project or program level business needs, translate the needs into request for solution and or procurement events and facilitate or co-lead cross-functional teams as applicable to execute the procurement process and plans; enable supplier selection and decision process.
  • Partner with procurement to analyze and direct GCS expenditure, to negotiate fair and cost-effective strategic agreements and to facilitate implementation of contracts for GCS.
  • Collaborate with Legal and other functions to anticipate and address an extensive range of risk scenarios to assure supply of services to meet GCS requirements.
  • Participate or co-lead governance related regular and ad hoc meetings with key stakeholders (e.g., GCS Leadership, Global Procurement, Finance, Vendor Leadership and Quality)
  • Coordinate with other strategic sourcing managers and sourcing groups to e valuate sourcing procedures and present improvement strategies to GCS leaders for approval.
  • Effectively utilize Pfizer's Sourcing tools and reporting capabilities to monitor, communicate and advance sourcing initiatives for GCS.



  • Bachelor's degree in business, economics, finance, logistics, or in a related field.
  • At least four years of professional experience within global clinical supply in a pharmaceutical company or relevant industry experience
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to negotiate across multi-disciplinary teams to deliver to milestones.
  • Customer oriented with p roficiency across sourcing, vendor engagement and vendor oversight
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize issues and drive progress in ambiguous situations.
  • Exceptional analytical and strategic thinking skills with an ability to aggregate detailed data into digestible information that can be used to support decision making
  • Willingness to appropriately engage to develop, promote, and maintain strategic sourcing relationships.
  • Experience managing change in a dynamic, complex environment.
  • Demonstrated interest in Patient Quality and Compliance.


  • Strategic Sourcing experience specific to clinical supply chain management
  • Advanced training in supply chain management, a scientific discipline, pharmacy and/or business administration are desirable
  • Experience with drug development, clinical study design, clinical trial operations and clinical trial execution, scientific research, pharmaceutical manufacturing would be advantageous
  • Experience with strategic sourcing, clinical packaging, labeling, distribution, IRT and supplier management are highly desirable.
  • Project Management certification is desirable
