East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) invites qualified applicants to apply for a Limited term (LT) position (up to 2 years) EBMUD’s Contact Center, part of the Customer Services Division. The Customer Services Representative I perform a variety of responsible customer service duties related to maintenance and processing of documents, payment collections, and customer inquiries and complaints. Incumbents may act in a front-line customer support position responsible for processing requests for service; be assigned to a support office responsible for remittance processing; or handle customer complaints and provide information. The Customer Services Representative I must maintain a high productivity level while adhering to customer service quality standards.

Other duties may include but are not limited to:
• Processing a variety of customer account records, verifying their accuracy and completeness, arranging for correction, and forwarding information to the appropriate unit.
• Maintaining and reconciling a variety of customer billing records as indicated.
• Estimating the proper amount of bills when meter readings are unobtainable.
• Obtaining required information from customers to begin or discontinue water service.
• Verifying credit information on orders as directed.
• Processing customer payments and balancing daily receipts by utilizing a computer-based revenue processing system.
• Answering a multi-line telephone where incoming customer calls are consistently forwarded to representatives by computer automation.
• Typing various forms or letters from plain or corrected copy.
• Entering data into and retrieving data from the computer system.
• Processing mailed-in customer payments using computerized high-speed equipment and imaging technology.

1. Completion of the twelfth grade or its equivalent; AND

2. Two years of customer service experience.

Other requirements:
• Must possess the physical characteristics needed to perform the critical and important duties of the job, including the physical capacity to stand or sit and work using a keyboard and/or telephone for prolonged periods without a break.
• Physical capacity to reach and stoop to retrieve and sort files.
• Sufficient strength to lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 20 pounds; hand-eye coordination sufficient to peruse documents for pertinent information while entering data into a computer or 10-key.
• Visual acuity to read numbers, text, computer screens and computer printouts.
• Physical capacity to speak in English in order to communicate effectively.
• Hearing sufficient to communicate both in person and on the telephone.
• Manual dexterity to write, operate a keyboard and a 10-key.
