About This Role

The Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Neurorepair Research Unit at Biogen seeks a highly motivated Associate Scientist whose primary responsibility will be to advance glial specific biology of targets and drug discovery in the field of Neuroscience/Neuroimmunology/Immunology. The candidate is primarily responsible for designing and conducting pre-clinical studies to support early target validation efforts. The candidate should have extensive experience working with mice, be able to establish in vivo and ex vivo glial based assays and tissue analysis. This position offers an opportunity to work closely with other scientists in the group. The candidate is expected to work independently, prepare reports, participate, and present in meetings.

What You’ll Do
  • handling mouse models of neuroscience in driving target validation and drug discovery efforts for MS and related neuroinflammatory conditions
  • identify novel phenotypes relevant to neuroimmunology and glial cells
  • leverage animal models of MS and neuroinflammation to establish proof-of-biology
  • independently design and execute experimental plans, performing rigorous analysis and interpretation of experiments
  • collaborate with relevant individuals and groups to advance projects; demonstrate good lab citizenship

Required Skills
  • MS Degree in a life science area with research experience in an academic or industry setting or a BS Degree in a life science area with minimum of 2 years of experience either in academic or industry setting
  • extensive experience in handling mouse models is required and proficiency with models of neuroscience/immunology is preferred
  • expertise in conducting in vivo phenotypic studies (animal surgery, dosing, tissue harvest and processing, immunohistochemistry, imaging, flow cytometry, others) are required
  • creative in troubleshooting experimental details and optimization of protocols
  • excellent communication and collaboration skills are required
  • proven track record of working efficiently and proactively is required

Preferred Skills
  • experience in primarycell culture, iPSC culture, co-culture systems (brain slice culture, brain organoids)
