Job Description

The Times is looking for a strong developer and visual specialist who can build interactive graphics and report and analyze data. This graphics editor will design and create charts, diagrams, maps and other visualizations. They will work with fellow designers, reporters and editors to create visual stories for breaking news and enterprise subjects on all platforms. They will pursue original reporting and will be expected to exercise journalistic and visual judgment to ensure the accuracy and clarity of their work.

This editor's work will integrate a range of storytelling forms and disciplines like statistical visualizations, diagrams, cartography, video, photography, audio and animation. They will have room to explore a range of emerging technologies, like augmented and virtual reality and machine learning.

Job Requirements:
  • Expertise in web development, including Javascript, HTML and CSS.
  • A pragmatic innovator whose solutions elicit responses that justify the effort and investment.
  • Strong visual and interactive design skills with a clear grasp of typography, layout, color, motion and user behavior.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and to adapt to change in a daily, unpredictable news production environment.
  • Experience working collaboratively with members of a multidisciplinary team.
