WGL - Manager Safety

WGL is seeking a Manager Safety who will be accountable for employee safety, including continual improvement of a robust safety culture; occupational health, safety, and DOT driving programs, policies, and procedures; compliance with federal, state and local occupational health and safety regulations; a safe work environment; and to achieve the safety goals of the organization.

You Will

  • Manages the Safety Department Staff and all WGL Health and Safety programs including but not limited to ergonomics, occupational health & safety awareness, DOT driving compliance, behavior-based initiatives, and/or incentive/recognition programs including compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Responsible for the Incident/Injury Investigation process for all WGL Entities of incidents, injuries, accidents, and near misses for all WGL Entities; leads root cause analysis, trending, process improvement/prevention measures, Federal Agency Reporting; Compliance; and accompanying communications
  • Manages team including hiring, training, planning, evaluating, work assignments, and performance management
  • Provides technical and tactical expertise on complex occupational health & safety issues that may have significant impact on WGL employees, resources, revenue, and operation
  • Supports business units in conducting oversight, review and audit of contractor safety requirements and performance including OSHA compliance and updated safety regulations
  • Leads and coordinates the research and evaluation of occupational health, safety, and DOT driving regulations and standards, industry best practices, recommends safety-focused improvements in the Corporation's operating procedures, equipment, materials, and systems
  • Manages the review and audit process of facilities and operations to ensure compliance with OSHA and related regulations by ensuring risk assessments of hazardous processes, material and equipment are conducted
  • Executes long-range plans for all WGL Entities to achieve occupational health & safety objectives set by each executive team
  • Manages the current and five-year budget for regulated and non-regulated occupational health & safety departments
  • Collaborates with Health and Medical Personnel to improve injury management procedures and ensure corporate compliance with OSHA & DOT regulations
  • Manages computer system/program requirements to optimize data collection and reporting

Must Have

  • Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Engineering, Industrial Hygiene or Chemical Engineering preferred
  • 7+ Years of related experience in Occupational Health & Safety and DOT Driving compliance
  • 2+ Years of prior supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated ability to manage occupational health and safety programs and DOT Driving compliance programs across multiple companies
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of federal and state Environmental regulations, relevant EPA regulations, and environmental procedures as it relates to requirements on government assigned work
  • Specialized working knowledge of federal, state and local regulatory codes around occupational health, safety, industrial hygiene, NFPA (National Fire Protection Agency, and driving safety compliance
  • Possession of safety certification(s) such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) GSP (Graduate Safety Practitioner) or ASP (Associate Safety Professional), CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist)
  • Experience in developing and approving AHA's in accordance with EM-385-1-1 and Army Corp. of Engineers standards
