Our location in Abbott Park, IL, currently has an opportunity for a Senior Manager, Procurement - Center of Excellence.

The Business Excellence (BEx) Team sets global procurement strategies and enables supporting processes, tools, and policies. BEx team members apply source to pay best practices and enabling technology knowledge to guide Abbott towards best-in-class procurement practices. The team members are highly visible and collaborative across Abbott divisions, procurement, business, and financial functions and with external suppliers.

The Senior Manager Business Excellence will be driving the development of strategies including the development of solutions, implementation strategies and governance for global implementation of indirect and direct category buying practices. While the immediate focus is driving the efficiencies across indirect categories including strong discipline in category management, streamlining of purchasing authority and implementation of a suite of indirect buying technologies, the individual will have a long-term target to develop and drive continuous improvement and special projects globally as well as ensuring compliance and sustaining implemented best practices across the procurement community globally.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Accountabilities:
  • Develop global procurement strategies across indirect and direct procurement including enabling processes, technologies and polices.
  • Lead Source to Pay process and engage with regional and divisional peers for consistent global execution
  • Responsible for defined Source to Pay Strategy workstreams and the alignment of workstream delivery for procurement platform implementation. Must be able to anticipate challenges/roadblocks, connect the dots between all workstreams and escalate risks/issues as appropriate. Provides input and guidance to Key Design Decision framework and brings recommendations to Program Core Team and procurement leadership. Manages the budget and owns the Implementation Plan and deliverables for capital approval from a procurement perspective for defined projects
  • Drives the goals and objectives of the Indirect Procurement Initiative through global implementation including development of strong category discipline, streamlining of delegation of purchase authority and implementation of indirect purchasing technologies including the Ariba platform.
    • Supports execution of waved implementation plans for the Ariba network.
    • Serve as a change leader for Abbott internal stakeholders during the implementation of the indirect initiative policies, processes, and technologies across all workstreams and pillars
    • Develops and leads implementation of strategies for streamlining and driving efficiencies in indirect procurement practices, organizational support models and operational execution
  • Support the continuous improvement and on-going development of processes within a Source to Pay Technology for direct and indirect categories

  • Has mastered governance and decision rights within a complex program to make decisions and remove barriers and has demonstrated the resolve needed to hold workstreams accountable to meet delivery deadlines and objectives.
  • Project Management: Possesses the 'science' of delivery - strong rigor in planning and managing to business objective, scope, schedule, and budget. Balances technical skill with the 'art' of knowing the guardrails, critical path, and top priorities to guide multiple workstream.
  • Strong ability to collaborate across matrixed organizations through indirect influencing and drive change to ensure adoption and compliance to defined processes, practices, and policies


Source to Pay Knowledge:
  • Strong functional knowledge across Source to Pay processes, practices, policies, and technologies.
  • Procurement category sourcing experience preferred.

  • Proactively seek innovative ways to improve the procure to pay processes, cycle times, and customer experience
  • Works within defined processes and procedures and helps determine appropriate approaches for change.


Relationship Management:
  • Influence and partner with business leaders (DVP, Director, Sr. Director level) to manage and align the business excellence strategies. Closely collaborate with adjacent business departments to ensure adequate and timely delivery of agreed to projects, in line with agreed service levels.
  • Partner and collaborate with key One Procurement staff and Abbott divisions to support cross divisional business initiatives and explore procurement synergies and efficiencies.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers as well as counterparts at other Healthcare/Consumer companies. Manage ongoing processes, policies, and technologies across procurement community
  • Own and implement agreed to business excellence strategies
  • Foster a collaborative environment among stakeholders, internally and externally
  • Build and maintain strong relationships across various functions, demonstrate the value-add of leveraging and build enthusiasm and support for adoption of key strategies
  • Ensure optimal balance between value for efficiencies, money and cost savings is achieved, while ensuring quality and excellent customer service
  • Monitor market dynamics for procurement practices across regions
  • Meet regularly with divisional stakeholders and support functions to ensure good customer satisfaction and continuous improvement


Leading People:
  • Lead project teams responsible for business excellence strategies for indirect and direct buying processes, systems, and policies. Responsible for people leadership - directly and indirectly. Recruit, mentor, train and develop talent in a matrix environment.
  • Address people issues in a constructive and timely manner. Responsible for overall morale of team and promotes cohesive attitude across organization and project teams globally
  • Establishes staffing/resources plans determining appropriate mix of development opportunities. Responsible for overall organizational effectiveness and leadership.
  • Exhibit cultural awareness across team and across diverse business entities globally
  • Seek, develop, and maintain internal and external business relationships with suppliers, clients, and stakeholders
  • Communicate with appropriate teams to drive adoption to processes, policies, and technology


Compliance:
  • Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional policies and procedures.


Accountability:
  • Operates with goals set by the DVP/Senior Director of Procurement Business Excellence, but at the same time is highly self-motivated and directed.
  • Erroneous decisions would normally result in failure to complete projects critical to major objectives of procurement strategy. Has direct impact on budgets, expenses, and major project completion.
  • Seek innovative ways to maintain and improve procurement processes, cycle times, total acquisition costs, and customer service levels

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU'LL BRING

Required
  • BA or equivalent experience required: MBA preferred
  • 7-10 years of procurement experience. Including managing procurement transformations and implementation of e-Procurement applications, process and policies working with suppliers or customers


Preferred
  • Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) or similar certification desirable
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar certification desirable
  • Strong working knowledge and experience in development and implementation of Source to Pay processes, policies, and technologies
  • Good organizational skills, including program/project management governance.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal), including proven collaboration with stakeholders
  • Strong interdisciplinary, intercultural, influence, and networking skills.
  • International experience
  • Deep knowledge procurement operations by regions
  • Experience with Supplier management
  • Ability to develop actionable implementation plans
  • Relevant business process knowledge, as related to Procurement and Category Management.
  • Extensive knowledge of category technologies and products.
  • Strong influence and negotiating skills.
  • Experience leading teams - both with direct staff and indirect project teams.
  • Analytical skills and high proficiency with reporting and excel tools
  • Strong problem-solving skills and continuous improvement mindset
  • Self-Starter and possesses drive for professional development
  • Source to Pay Technology Experience - SAP, ARIBA (desired)
