Abbott Vascular currently has an opportunity for a Regional Medical Science Manager for the Upper Mid US territory.


The Regional Medical Science Manager (R-MSM) plans, establishes, grows, and coordinates strategic relationships with key opinion leaders (KOL's) across all Abbott Vascular (AV) therapeutic areas for the purpose of scientific and clinical engagement in a designated geographic region. The R-MSM also acts as Therapy Leader/Subject Matter Expert in one of more AV therapeutic areas and works cross-functionally within AV to identify, develop, and implement strategies and tactics and also monitors results. The R-MSM reports to a Director of Medical Affairs (D-MA). 40% travel.

Main Responsibilities

Duties include developing scientific relationships with national KOLs. R-MSMs manage Investigator Sponsored Studies within their geographical region. Developing strategic planning, financial management, professional development, training and support and execution of organizational goals and objectives. Responsible for competitive business analysis, clinical positioning and of designated therapy areas. The R-MSM will also be expected to train, mentor and lead other projects that may impact the overall organization, working across functional teams.


Plans, establishes, grows, and coordinates strategic relationships with key opinion leaders (KOL's) for the purpose of scientific and clinical education. The R-MSM is fully accountable for the development, direction, and execution of the MSM organization's regional goals and objectives. Accountable for the development, direction and execution of the MSM organizational regional and therapeutic goals and objective. The R-MSM works across functional teams to guide scientific strategy related to their assigned therapy areas.

R-MSMs are accountable for and have decision-making responsibility for deploying regional and therapeutic area resources to support and ensure attainment of business objectives. This includes adhering to regional fiscal budgets, dissemination of scientific information within corporate regulatory and compliance guidelines, managing team and individual performance within their duties, project management and quantifying and reporting regional results.

Serves as mentor for other R-MSMs including training and coaching.



Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Business or Life Science. Preference is for the candidate to have an advanced degree.

The ideal candidate for this job will have a minimum of 5+ years with demonstrated leadership success in the following areas: scientific medical device industry or scientific pharmaceutical industry experience and/or Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory research, clinical or leadership experience. Preferably, this would be an individual with multiple years of cardiology device experience either in industry or in clinical position(s).
