Scientist II / Sr. Scientist Bioassay Team Lead

About This Role

Biogen is looking for experienced assay scientists to join our Bioassays and High-Throughput Screens (BHTS) group within the Biotherapeutics and Medicinal Sciences department in Cambridge, MA. BHTS team leads are key members of interdisciplinary project teams who collaborate with biologists, medicinal chemists, and pharmacologists to achieve project milestones.

What You’ll Do:
  • Lead a small team of assay scientists to design, develop, and execute physiologically relevant microplate-based assays to identify and characterize modulators using cutting-edge technologies and cell systems.
  • Represent BHTS at project team meetings
  • Act as an assay subject matter expert resource for colleagues and take calculated risks to advance technological capability for developing innovative assays.
  • Own the assay results generated by your team and oversee outsourced assays to ensure they meet Biogen quality standards.

You are a self-motivated scientist who enjoys leading from the bench and applying your experience in developing robust cell-based and biochemical assays to help accelerate the invention of new drugs to treat devastating neurological disorders.

Required Skills:
  • Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, or MS with equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years of experience developing quantitative bioassays that enable optimization of drug candidates
  • In-depth conceptual knowledge and practical expertise in the design and development of robust assay systems
  • Fluent in assay data analysis and associated software
  • Supervisorial experience in a scientific context
  • Proven ability to solve complex assay-related technical problems
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and work productively as part of a cross-functional team

Preferred Skills:
  • GPCR and ion channel assay methodology
  • Confocal imaging assays

Biogen’s US Alzheimer’s Franchise is looking to recruit proven and ambitious sales achievers with at least five years of experience in pharma, specialty, hospital, med device/capital equipment, and/or biotech sales.
In this field-based, specialty sales representative position you will be called upon to sell our products with key stakeholders in the Alzheimer’s Disease community: including Neurologists and allied health professionals.
