About This Role

Biogen is seeking a motivated and creative chemist to join our small molecule chemical development group in Cambridge, MA. This individual will provide support for process research of Biogen small molecule development programs from pre-clinical to clinical stage of development.

  • Route scouting by applying organic chemistry knowledge and green chemistry principles.
  • Evaluation/process improvements of existing/known routes.
  • Working closely with analytical chemists and chemical engineers to understand/improve process
  • by applying fundamental process chemistry principles.
  • Preparing technical reports, patent application content, publications, and oral presentations as necessary.

You love organic chemistry and are passionate about proposing innovative synthetic ideas, analyzing experimental data, and using data to drive further process optimization. You love learning new technological skills and working through collaboration.


  • Ph.D. degree in synthetic organic chemistry, or related disciplinewith 0+ years of related experience OR
  • MS degree in synthetic organic chemistry, or related disciplinewith 4+years of related experience

Required Skills
  • In-depth knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and demonstrated ability to work effective in a team environment
  • Have scientific curiosity and give attention to detail, both in performing experiments and keeping an electronic lab notebook
  • Prefer to keep a neat and tidy lab bench and will always be mindful of working safely
  • Have hands on experience with NMR, IR, HPLC (achiral; chiral), GC and LCMS
  • Have experience with Microsoft Office products and ChemDraw

Preferred Skills
  • Prior experience in process chemistry preferred
