About This Role

The Scientist will be a key scientific leader in the Neuromuscular Diseases (NMD) Research Unit. They will influence the discovery of therapeutic strategies and contribute to the leadership and discovery of programs targeting Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). The Scientist will manage direct reports. The successful candidate will have a strong background in ALS biology, with demonstrated experience in the application of novel therapeutic paradigms for ALS. Experience in cellular and/or in vivo models of ALS disease is critical.

What You’ll Do
  • Conduct early research for ALS
  • Develop novel therapeutic programs based on human genetic rational & ground-breaking discoveries that could lead to novel, high-impact opportunities for patients
  • Lead cross-functional preclinical program team in the discovery of a novel therapeutic
  • Direct research and publish findings in high-impact journals, and present research at major conferences
  • Effectively partner with the program team, other scientists and the NMD Research Unit leadership team to develop and execute on the program’s strategic plan
  • Present program data at a range of internal forums, including Research Seminars and Leadership Team governance forums
  • Provide senior scientific leadership and guide the strategic direction of the company’s efforts in the ALS Therapeutic Area Research Group, including developing and evaluating new internal and external therapeutic opportunities
  • Manage, mentor and guide a focused team of in vitro/in vivo scientists

Required Skills
  • Ph.D. with strong experience in ALS biology and disease or a related subject area with 10+ years of relevant experience
  • The candidate will have a proven record of accomplishment of driving and supporting multiple research projects, and contributions as an author to high-impact, peer-reviewed publications in the field
  • Experience in performing in-depth in vitro functional assays and in vivo efficacy studies for ALS
  • Experience supporting the development of gene therapies, small molecules, biologics and/or other therapies, including determining preclinical program strategy and design

In this field-based, specialty sales representative position you will be called upon to sell our products with key stakeholders in the Alzheimer’s Disease community: including Neurologists and allied health professionals.
