Job Description

The Newsletters team is seeking a news assistant to support daily operations for our growing portfolio. We need a strong writer and quick learner, who is passionate about interacting with readers, enjoys juggling several different projects at once, and can work independently on editorial projects.

Responsibilities include:
  • Monitoring and replying to the deluge of emails sent to The Morning and other newsletter inboxes
  • Managing David Leonhardt's public-facing email account, which also gets a high volume of messages
  • Creating and publishing web versions of newsletters
  • Creating reader callout forms in Attribute and mining reader responses for use in The Morning newsletter, other newsletters and on-site pieces
  • Producing the weekly news quiz, by writing quiz questions, working with contributing writers and editors, and inputting it into the Adventure CMS
  • Filling in, as needed, to write various briefings newsletters

In addition to these tasks, working with newsletters could be a great learning opportunity for a news assistant with strong writing skills. We'd love to work with someone who could be trained to write for various briefings and occasionally have them fill in when we inevitably have gaps in the schedule.

  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Knowledge of Times style or the ability to absorb and apply it quickly
  • An interest in newsletters
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to bridge specialties, including writing, producing various types of journalism and engaging with readers
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills
