Job Description

BAE Systems is looking for a highly qualified and self-motivated Network Architect for the Engineering, Development, Integration, and Sustainment (EDIS) program. This position will support the US Space Force (USSF) Space and Missile Systems Center Innovation and Prototyping Directorate, to develop, deploy, modernize, and expand the EDIS program and its customers. This position directly supports experimental and operational satellite missions.

Key Responsibilities:

The Network Architect will apply complex design principles and methodologies to ensure cost-effective and optimal use of resources and technology without jeopardizing network integrity. The network architect will work in coordination with the software and hardware teams to get the necessary network equipment in place, and in collaboration with network engineers, network administrators and other professionals to examine and evaluate network performance and existing network technologies and make changes where needed to increase security and efficiency. Perform network design/monitoring, permissions management, account management, user activity logging, virtualization management, middleware management, database management.
  • Evaluate alternative technologies and architectures in relation to the organization's infrastructure needs.
  • Interface with management and vendors to develop and implement new solutions to meet technical requirements.
  • Design and manage the rollout of critical network infrastructures to support products and services, on both a strategic (long term) and tactical (immediate term) level.
  • Perform analytical, technical, cost analysis and in the planning, design, installation and on-going administration and management of data networks.
  • Ensure that network infrastructure is fully documented and performing as required by means of specific metrics and measurements.
  • Prepare the analysis of short/long term capacity needs for switching, routing transmission and signaling
  • Conduct network architecture design, feasibility and cost studies as well as internal studies of network performance and traffic analysis
  • Provide high-level technical advice and guidance to managers and technical resources on which network technologies can be utilized to meet current and future organizational needs. All work is completed on a cross-functional Development/O&S Team utilizing Agile and model based systems engineering processes.
  • Apply knowledge of enterprise system monitoring and management tools. (Solar Winds, Wireshark, etc)
  • Establish overall strategic network standards and priorities to maintain the network baseline
  • Recommend network design changes/enhancements for improved systems availability and performance.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • This position requires an active Top Secret security clearance with eligibility to obtain and maintain TS/SCI
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or Network Engineering with fourteen (14) or more years relevant experience, Master's degree and twelve (12) years or more experience, or PhD and nine (9) years or more experience. May substitute eighteen (18) or more years of experience for degree.
  • DoD 8570.1 IAT Level II certification
  • Ability to provide high level summary of results and draw conclusions based on interpretation of data
  • Good understanding of discipline process; information and data management, configuration control
  • Thorough understanding of modern service provider TCP/IP data networks using standards and technologies including but not limited to: MPLS, IS-IS, OSPF, BGP4, STP, RSTP, 802.1q, 802.1ah, ADSL2+, VDSL2, GPON
  • Familiarity with the following technologies: Cisco 95xx and 6509-E, Cisco C7010/C5596 Nexus Switches, Cisco 55xx ASA Firewalls, DHS Compliance Checks, Software Defined Networking, SD WAN, and Network Monitoring Tools
  • Developing IT Solutions in collaboration with engineering teams.
  • Superior knowledge, skills and experience with Cisco routing hardware, software, protocols etc.
  • Strong working knowledge of structured cabling systems, network facilities, electrical, UPS, etc.
  • Ability to work alone as an individual contributor, as a technical lead and as a participant in a team environment
  • Router, Switch and IP configuration experience is required
  • Strong background in Microsoft Office Suite and MS Visio

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Advanced degree (Master's) in science and technology related disciplines such as Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Systems Engineering, and Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Strong ability to use software to develop drawings, network topologies, and interconnect diagrams
  • Seasoned communicator with demonstrated record of success in leadership, followership, and working with contract representatives and government sponsors.
  • Proven experience with Agile, sprints and DevOps concepts
  • Experience working with a Scrum Master, Daily Scrum meetings, sprints and written deliverables
  • Working knowledge of cloud service environments (VMWare, Kubernetes, VNFs, Docker/Containers)
