Associate Scientist III, Cell Assays - Gene Therapy

The Gene Therapy Accelerator Unit (GTxAU) at Biogen is seeking a committed, enthusiastic, and dependable Associate Scientist to contribute to the generation of gene therapy clinical candidates for neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory diseases

What you’ll do

As the Cell Assays Associate Scientist, you will work collaboratively with a cross-functional team and have high growth potential. You will be part of a team focusing on implementing and characterizing novel cargo design strategies in relevant in vitro and in vivo models .
  • Independently design, execute and troubleshoot molecular biology experiments (plasmid construction, biomaterial preparation and quality control)
  • Design, execute and analyze cell-based assays (cell lines, primary cells, and iPSC-derived models) using both transfection and AAV transduction with reporter or molecular biology readouts.
  • Independently perform protocol-based biochemical experiments (DNA/RNA isolation, RT/qPCR, etc.)
  • Maintain electronic laboratory notebooks and biomaterial inventory, present data to the team, and write study reports.

Who You Are

You are a Scientist with strong cell assay expreince and who uses your critical thinking, presentation skills, and strong communication and organizational skills to productively collaborate in cross-functional teams.


Required Skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant scientific field (biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, bioengineering etc.) Master’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry or equivalency in academic laboratories
  • Strong skillsets in molecular biology techniques (biomolecular cloning using different strategies, qPCR, RT-qPCR, ELISA, WB, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture, including cell lines, primary cells, and iPSC derived models is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with DNA/RNA isolation from cells and/or rodent tissue samples.

Preferred Skills:
  • Hands-on experience with cell-based assays using transfection and AAV transduction.
  • Hands-on experience with microscopy and image analysis, including fluorescent imaging, confocal and high-content imaging.
  • Hands-on experience with immunostaining and FACS
