Our plant location in Columbus, OH currently has an opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer. This site is Abbott's oldest nutrition manufacturing plant in the world. Working here, you'll feel part of a family - a family of 400 that works together to help nourish the world. The Manufacturing Engineer will p rovide support to the Manufacturing organization to facilitate efficient operations within the production area, to optimize existing processes, and to ensure that production goals are met. The role will monitor performance of equipment, machines and tools and will correct equipment problems or process parameters that produce non-conforming products, low yields or product quality issues. The individual in this position will interface with the Quality and Research and Development organizations to integrate new products or processes into the existing manufacturing area.

  • Initiate and complete technical activities leading to new or improved products or process, for current programs, next generation programs and to meet strategic goals and objectives of the company
  • Prepare reports, publishes, and make presentations to communicate findings
  • Analyze and solve problems from basic engineering principles, theories and concepts through to a wide range of complex and advanced problems which require novel and new innovative approaches or a major breakthrough in technology
  • Understand engineering principles theories, concepts, practices and techniques
  • Develop knowledge in a field to become a recognized leader or authority in an area of specialization and applies this knowledge in leadership roles in the company
  • Incorporate business policies and procedures into task completion
  • Understand the business needs of the company, and gain knowledge of the customer needs of our business
  • Understand the business cycle and foresight of emerging technologies trends
  • Cultivate internal and external network of resources to complete tasks
  • Serve as a resource in the selection orientation and training of new engineers and employees
  • May lead a project team, determining goals and objectives for the projects
  • Mentor employees by sharing technical expertise and providing feedback and guidance
  • Interact cross functionally and with internal and external customers
  • Serve as a consultant for engineering or scientific interpretations and advice on significant matters
  • Act as a spokesperson to customers on business unit current and future capabilities

Education and Experience You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Electrical Engineering Degree preferred) or closely related discipline is desired AND 2 or more years of related work experience with a good understanding of specified functional area, OR Master's degree with 0 or more years of related work experience, OR equivalent technical experience plus demonstrated competence
  • Working technical knowledge and application of manufacturing engineering related concepts, practices and procedures
  • Ability to perform this job within a quality system environment

  • Experience with various Rockwell PLC platforms (PLC-5, ControlLogix, CompactLogix, SLC 500). Emerson DeltaV and Modicon Quantum experience is a plus.
  • Experience with various controls hardware: 480VAC variable speed drives, various communications methods, discrete I/O control devices, analog I/O control devices, pneumatics/solenoids, actuators/positioners, instrumentation, industrial bar code readers/vision systems, ink and laser coders, etc.
  • Ability to work on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors
  • Exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action
  • Broad knowledge of technical alternatives and an understanding of their impact on the systems environment
