As the Director, Application Development - Group Protection, you will lead a dynamic team working in an agile environment focused on building the necessary capabilities to support our claimants and their employers. Lincoln's Group Protection business is evolving and embracing technology transformation across the board, and this Manager of Software Engineering - Group Protection will help execute uponthe roadmap for how our solutions are architected and implemented for years to come. This is a great opportunity for an experienced technical leader to partner with CX, re-engineering and claims operations teams, to innovate and create solutions that drive our business.

Responsibilities

  • Builds and maintains relationships with internal clients to better understand how technology can best support current and future business needs.
  • Builds organizational capability within their assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Collaborates with appropriate project management resources on the development and execution of project plans, test plans and implementation plans including ensuring appropriate project resource allocations.
  • Communicates in a timely and appropriate manner to management and other stakeholders regarding scope, status, risks and issues; develops mitigation plans if necessary.
  • Ensures all new systems and/or major modifications for their assigned area(s) of responsibility meet company standards, goals, security and auditing requirements.
  • Ensures that business applications meet established service level agreements.
  • Ensures that top talent is hired and retained for their assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Establishes and implements individual and team priorities, performance goals and objectives to ensure completion of responsibility for their assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Identifies and recommends process improvements that significantly reduce workloads or improve quality across for their assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends for assigned area(s) of responsibility, assesses the impact, and collaborates with management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future solutions.
  • Manages a team and processes for their assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Manages and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives within assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Manages and evaluates individual/team performance and takes appropriate action to meet and/or exceed performance standards for assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Manages assigned area(s) of responsibility to ensure workloads are appropriately balanced among team members.
  • Manages the analysis, development and delivery of applications which meet current and future business needs for their assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Manages the development and execution of increasingly complex test plans (as applicable) to ensure accuracy and that the applications meet business needs.
  • May develop and manage budget/expenses for their assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • May oversee and manage vendor relationships and process to coordinate activities and ensure compliance of statement of work.
  • Partners with stakeholders to ensure that systems are designed, developed and implemented from a business point of view.
  • Provides training and development opportunities, including stretch assignments, for team members and gives honest and open feedback to aid in the development of talent.
  • Reviews functional specifications, business requirements, and test plans to ensure accurate system enhancements, optimize customer satisfaction and to ensure the integrity of the platforms for their assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Serves as a point of escalation and/or resource to investigate and resolve system outages, application issues and project concerns.
  • Serves as a resource to team members and internal/external stakeholders on more complex assignments/projects for their assigned area(s) of responsibility.


Certifications

Experience

Must Haves:
  • 5+ years of experience that directly aligns with the responsibilities for this position including 3 years of working directly in or with an agile team(s)
  • 1+ years of managerial, supervisory, and/or demonstrated leadership experience
  • 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience


Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience managing teams with full AWS development lifecycle delivery, including Infrastructure Provisioning, Automation and Security
  • Experience with or knowledge of various technologies such as Angular JS, HTML, Javascript, Java (Spring) and API development
  • Experience leading application development in the Claims business of the Insurance industry
  • Proven ability to collaborate with internal teams, business partners and stakeholders, instilling a collaborative transparent culture that allows the team to be successful and ensures work aligns with strategic and tactical goals.
  • Resource management background, focused on resource development, training/upskilling, performance assessment, growth opportunities, capacity vs demand requirements
  • Understanding of:
    • Agile, Software development lifecycle
    • DevOps
    • Application security
