Senior Building Scientist - TERM

Lead a multidisciplinary effort in research and development related to building science and technologies, thermal fluids, heat transfer, and HVAC. Works with lab leadership to develop strategy and programs related to energy and buildings. Leads and reviews research proposals to DOE, other federal sponsors, and industry. Communicates impactful research outcomes through internal reports, presentations, peer-reviewed publications, and conference presentations.

The Building and Industrial Technologies Group within the Center for Energy, Environmental, and Economic Systems Analysis (CEEESA) in the Energy Systems Division at Argonne seeks a candidate to fill a part time role with a focus on helping to grow a research program in HVAC technologies, especially non-vapor compression HVAC, to help develop strategy and program development related to building technologies and analysis, and provide technical assistance to DOE and other sponsors in building science and thermal engineering as needed. Candidates must be acknowledged thought leaders in areas of building science and/or thermal engineering with an international reputation especially in the area of desiccants and non-vapor compression HVAC.

Position Requirements

  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering and 15+ years of experience.
  • Research experience in non-vapor compression HVAC and desiccants.
  • Extensive experience in development of large -scale research projects and programs related to Building Science and/or Thermal Engineering.
  • Experience in program strategy development and new business capture.
  • International reputation in Building Science and Thermal Engineering as evidenced by publication, citation, editor positions and service or Fellowship in professional societies.
  • Established peer network of thought leaders in Building Science and Thermal Engineering.
