PSEG Long Island is seeking an intern for our Substation Technical Maintenance area at our Hicksville, NY location.

The successful candidate will assist the Substation Maintenance Technical Engineers in a variety of engineering support tasks such as the review, interpretation and filing of technical documents (field and factory test reports equipment specifications, etc.); spare parts inventory and specification, spare equipment inventorying, equipment testing, and technical assistance to ensure the completion of preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, special projects, and capital efforts island-wide.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but not limited to the following:

* Assist in providing engineering and testing to ensure completion of substation preventive and corrective maintenance efforts and Capital Projects

* Evaluate the quantity of system spare material and equipment and specify spare parts for inventory stocking

* Work with Substation Maintenance Technical Engineers to acceptance test transformers, switchgear, and voltage transformers

* Assist in the preparation of written procedures to process oil insulated substation equipment

* Develop infrared thermography, electrical test and asset reports for new and existing substation equipment

* Update the Substation Maintenance equipment database to include all new capital substation equipment installed on the system

* Review Substation Engineering specifications to procure new inventory and capital substation equipment

* Participate in equipment design reviews for new capital substation assets

* Participate in substation equipment failure analysis

* Assist the group in populating the BOM portion of the NEDLI database for projects originating within Technical Maintenance

Job Specific Qualifications

Required Skills and Abilities:

The successful candidate (s) must be actively pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Technical/Science related major. All candidates must have completed sophomore level course work prior to the start of the summer internship program. PSEG recognizes institutions of higher education, which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent.

Preferred Skills:

3.0 GPA

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.

Effective verbal and written communication skills

All PSEG internship roles are paid at an hourly rate, however there are no benefits associated with these positions. Candidates are expected to work 40 hours per week over the summer period for the full 10-12 week period. We are targeting currently enrolled students, staying in the New York metro area for the duration of the internship and able to commute to the assigned work location. Housing, transportation, immigration Support will not be provided in association with these positions.
