HIM Operations Manager

The primary purpose of the Operations Manager position is to manage the daily operations of a large section of the Health Information Management Department. Exercise independent judgment and initiative in carrying out responsibilities related to retrieval of health information for patient care.

The Health Information Management (HIM) Department serves a multitude of internal and external clients which include clinical and research faculty, patients and their families, staff employees, students, regulatory and accreditation agencies, third party payers and other patient representatives such as attorneys.

HIM focuses on securing and maintaining health information and the management of health care information resources. Accurate, complete, secure patient information is essential to the delivery of safe, effective and reimbursable health care . We ensure that patient information meets regulatory compliance and accreditation standards. While this is not new, the means by which HIM is accomplishing these objectives is changing drastically and transforming the profession.

HIM services include document bar coding and imaging, chart corrections, medical record auditing, release of information, forms management, clinical documentation improvement and customer service.

Essential Job Functions Manages multi-shift operations for the delivery of health care information services. Staffs the operations of a multi-shift team in conjunction with shift supervisors. Manages the maintenance of the physical environment. Assists in planning for the delivery of services in transcription, record retrieval, record maintenance, data management, medical record completion or release of information. Manages the team's organization of work to achieve maximum productivity and quality. Conducts performance appraisals for staff. Provides training for new and incumbent team members. Monitors and reports team progress. Participates in the development of the budget.

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Healthcare, Business or related field.

EXPERIENCE: Four years related experience to include three years of supervisory experience. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis. Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate program may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience.

LICENSURE: RHIT/RHIA-preferred

Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
