International Patient Assistant

The primary purpose of the International Patient Assistant position is to assist international patients with MD Anderson Cancer Center intake, orientation and patient care needs.

The ideal candidate will be bilingual in English and Spanish, Mandarin and/or Arabic.

KEY JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Coordinates patient care services for international patients.
  • Liaisons with international patients, referring physicians and embassies to obtain demographic and medical information.
  • Educates patients and family members regarding MD Anderson Cancer Center system, hotel accommodations, transportation, etc.
  • Communicates and cooperates with other MD Anderson Cancer Center departments, clinics, physicians, consulates, etc. to assist international visitors.
  • Triages numerous calls/letters/faxes from patients/family members requesting information on the programs of the International Center and of MD Anderson Cancer Center.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Required: Associate's degree.

Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Business, International Business Relations, Foreign Languages, Healthcare Administration or related field.

Experience

Required: Four years of experience working with international patients or customers.

May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.

Other Skills

Required: Verbal fluency in two or more languages (English being one of the languages). Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.

Preferred: Fluency in Spanish or Mandarin.
