Project Coordinator

The Computing, Environmental, and Life Sciences directorate is seeking a Project Coordinator to join their Shared Services team. As part of the CLS-Shared Services team, the Project Coordinator provides support to a wide array of projects enabling shared services transformation, process improvement, and technical solutions. Under the direction of the CELS Project Manager, Strategic Initiatives, this role works toward predetermined short-range projects and uses independent judgment to help plan, facilitate, and foster the development of strategy and objectives related to continuously improving CELS Shared Services capabilities. In tandem with the CELS Project Manager, Strategic Initiatives, this position is accountable over all aspects of assigned improvement projects to ensure completion.

In this role you will:
  • Handle multiple and simultaneous tasks and projects while working under minimal supervision to produce results.
  • Collaborate with institutional stakeholders to perform matrixed work within other departments.
  • Work with a diverse set of stakeholders to assist in planning and implementing operational projects that help achieve the laboratory's strategic goals, which requires developing creative solutions to complex problems.
  • Serve as the CELS Information Assurance Representative and perform the various responsibilities associated with this role.
  • Support CELS proposal development, submittal, and tracking processes and perform the various responsibilities associated with this role.
  • Coordinate technical assistance on an as-needed basis relating to various scientific equipment in support of research programs.
  • Coordinate with CELS Procurement and third-party vendors related to malfunctions in scientific instruments and computer peripherals and will initiate those actions required to maintain an operational status.

Position Requirements
  • Skill and demonstrated expertise in providing support to integrated and diverse project teams.
  • Understanding and experience in interpreting and application of project management theories, principles, and computerized performance measurement systems for scope, schedule, cost, and risk.
  • Familiarity with establishing project scopes, project specifications, schedules, cost estimates, and managing operational efforts.
  • Experience with financial operations, writing, and publishing processes and policies.
  • Ability to manage working relationships and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Experience with computerized performance measurement systems for schedule and performance metrics.
  • Ability to achieve designated project goals within a designated timeframe.
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally in a matrix structure preferred.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills are required to interact effectively, tactfully, and discreetly with all internal/external contacts and to develop effective working relationships.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills including the ability to prioritize, organize and handle multiple assignments simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, while being detail oriented and using sound independent judgment to accomplish tasks.
  • Ability to comprehend and translate technical information.
  • Demonstrated success and understanding with project management methodologies, principles, and tools.
  • Familiarity and understanding of Argonne systems, policies, and procedures preferred.

This position can be hired at one of two levels, and the requirements for each are as follows:
  • PT2: Bachelor's degree + 2 years of experience, or equivalent.
  • PT3: Bachelor's degree + 4 years of experience, or a Master's degree + 2 years of experience, or equivalent.
