Job Summary

Oversees the management of a moderate size hub's Linehaul (LH) network. Manages the timely and cost efficient movement of trailers from hub to hub, hub to satellite, network-wide SmartPost movements, purchased transportation, and mainline trailer movements. Manages the day-to-day operations and interacts with contractors in all areas of business and company initiatives.

Essential Functions

• Plans, organizes, staffs, directs and controls the day to day operations of the department. Develops and implements policies and programs as necessary. • Develops and manages the department budget. Ensures compliance and is responsible to address variances and other budget concerns. • Performs all human resource management functions to include hiring, terminations, coaching, skills development, recognition and rewards, performance management and staff productivity. • Analyzes productivity and cost impacts of daily operations and implements changes as needed (e.g., improved routing, relief plans, service enhancements, contingency plans). • Reviews the analysis of mainline and satellite operations to maximize tractor usage and minimize linehaul costs. • Interacts with field contractors in areas of business changes and company initiatives (i.e., driver programs, advancements, settlement issues). • Monitors LH operating metrics and presents to all levels of field management and specialists (e.g., partials, empty moves, DWELL, load factor). • Communicates with other FedEx Operating Companies (OpCo), FXG departments, hubs, and stations to resolve various issues. • Leads department and cross-functional special projects. • Ensures the regulatory and legal operation of equipment while working with our business partners to provide a safe operation for the motoring public. • Participates as a member of the District Quality Counsel supporting the Quality process; leads the Quality Driven Management principles in the LH department. • Facilitates and leads the LH Safety committee • Leads forums to present information regarding business concerns to LH business partners.

Minimum Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Logistics or related field required; in addition to Minimum Experience, high school diploma or GED and four (4) years experience in linehaul operations, Logistics, or related area is accepted in lieu of degree.

Minimum Experience

• Eight (8) years experience required in field operations, field management, transportation industry, or related area; two (2) of those years experience required in station or facility management.

Required Skills, Abilities and / or Licensure

• Software skills, including use of Microsoft Office software and web-based applications. • Knowledge of Contractor Driver Administration and Settlement and Transportation Management System preferred. • Verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels of management. • Presentation skills necessary to facilitate training and/or deliver informational sessions to groups and/or individuals. • Ability to effectively provide instruction on process and practice within the department. • Time management and organizational skills necessary to manage multiple projects, appropriately prioritize workload, plan for resources to meet deadlines and goals, and respond to day-to-day functional needs. • Ability to analyze, review, and make recommendations. • Ability to mentor, coach and act as a knowledge resource to other employees. • Working knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations required.

Salary range $87k to $131k, salary determination commensurate with candidate experience.
