Day - 08 Hour (United States of America)

A Brief Overview
The Office Assistant III performs a variety of office support for the department, including telephone reception, reading reports over the telephone to healthcare providers, printing, mailing, faxing and otherwise distributing printed reports; filing and retrieving slides, tissue blocks, and other records; typing letters, manuscripts, miscellaneous reports, requisitions, schedules, and forms. Enters patent demographic and diagnostic data into departmental log books and computer. Edits transcribed reports as directed. Receives and processes autopsy requests. Maintains diagnostic coding system. Receives and processes consultation specimens. Submits information for billing, both for consultation services and hospital services. Plans and completes special projects as assigned.

  • Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Service Standards of the Hospital(s).
  • Answers telephones politely and promptly.
  • Codes diagnostic reports for research purposes.
  • Demonstrates commitment to attaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Edits reports as directed.
  • Enters patient demographic and diagnostic information in computer systems or departmental logs.
  • Files all microscopic slides and blocks.
  • Files reports and prepares for binding.
  • Forwards calls to medical staff or takes messages.
  • Greets physicians, hospital staff and patients in a friendly, professional manner.
  • Pages medical staff for STAT situations.
  • Prepares and submits billings for hospital services.
  • Prints and files or distributes reports by mail, fax or interdepartmental mail.
  • Processes Hospital purchasing and other miscellaneous forms.
  • Receives specimens for consultation and submits billing for consultation services to appropriate department.
  • Types letters, manuscripts, schedules, and miscellaneous reports.

Education Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
