The Opportunity

Goodman Manufacturing Inc, a member of Daikin Industries, is seeking a professional, skilled individual for our Engineer, SME 6 position located at our DTTP - Waller, TX location. The successful candidate will work with the Goodman Electrical Controls Engineering team to develop and sustain wireless technologies for HVAC residential products. These products include, but are not limited to, air handlers, coils, air conditioners, heat pumps and furnaces. The responsibilities of this position include the development, testing and documentation of software associated with wireless controls, designed to include Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Z-Wave, Bluetooth, etc., that are developed in house or through partnerships with third party companies. The Embedded Software Engineer will drive each assigned software development project from its infancy straight through to production. Daikin Texas Technology Park- has a footprint of 4.23 million square feet under a single roof, and is the third largest factory in the United States. May include;
• Design/simulate and test software for RF Circuitry (Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Z-Wave, Bluetooth)
• Develop and manage project schedules related to software development.
• Document activities (design and testing specs)
• Troubleshoot control designs and fabrication / field failures.
• Research and development of new concepts via prototype designs.
• Participate on cross functional teams to launch products, resolve issues, and support product improvements.
• Coordinate project work internally with the department and externally with other departments to ensure on-time completion of projects within budget.
• Work with suppliers to improve quality and resolve product issues.
• Assist Manufacturing with product launches and issue resolution.
• Drive continuous improvement projects related to product design and quality.


Nature and Scope

• Designs and Resolves Complex Electrical problems quickly and effectively.
• Leads in Problem Solving, Best Practices, Lessons Learned, and Lab Standard Work.
• Good and precise communications with the cross functional teams.
• Works with minimal direction
• Trains and Educates other Engineers when necessary

Knowledge and Skills
• Proficient programming in C/C++
• Experience with the following communication interfaces: I2C, SPI, CAN, TCP/IP
• Understanding of wireless protocols such as Bluetooth, Zigbee, Wi-Fi, Z-Wave etc.
• Experience with Embedded Software and Firmware Development (Microchip and Atmel microcontrollers)
• Knowledge of in-circuit software debugging, emulation and testing
• Basic knowledge of electrical components (resistors, capacitors, relays, etc.)
• Knowledge of lab tools (function generators, oscilloscopes, multi-meters, etc.)
• User Interface interaction design experience (preferred but not required)
• Software skills including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project
• Effective communication skills - both oral and written
• Effective project management skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of refrigeration and/or air conditioning design and application (preferred but not required)


• 12-15 years with embedded software development, documentation and code review
• Solid understanding of industry best practices related to software development


• BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
• Graduate degree is a plus
