The Opportunity

Goodman Manufacturing Inc, a member of Diakin Industries, is seeking a professional, skilled individual for our Engineer, Team Lead position located our DTTP - Waller, TX location. Goodman is seeking a professional, skilled individual for our Engineering Team Lead position. The individual must plan, organize and lead high efficiency HVAC (INVERTER, Variable refrigerant Flow) new product developments from technical standpoint to improve overall long term system quality, improve efficiency and reduce costs. The individual will understand the customer requirements/ specifications and works directly with internal customer, supplier, and cross functional team members to meet voice of customers, internal design, quality and other program targets. The individual will manage and coordinate all activities related to design, test and develop new high efficiency HVAC products such as splits systems outdoors, air-handlers and coils. Confers with management and production staff to determine the feasibility of new product developments. Responsibilities

May include;
  • Manage multiple design projects (mix of existing product and new product development) from inception to production focusing on cost, quality, and safety and on time delivery targets.
  • Run system simulations using various internal design software to design, and develop of new HVAC product developments,
  • Develop and manage project schedules, teams and resources related to modification of existing product designs and new product development as applicable and develop aggressive yet realistic project deadlines.
  • Keep leadership informed of project status through communication and providing various reports as requested.
  • Participate and lead cross-functional teams to launch products, resolve issues, and support product improvements.
  • Assume ownership for maintenance and updates for purchased part engineering drawings, standards, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Define and implement continuous improvement opportunities, lean initiatives, and design for manufacturing (DFM) tools.
  • Assist with product design by providing guidance based on technical knowledge and experience.
  • Leverage engineering analytical tools (e.g., tolerance stacks, FE, and CFD analyses) to facilitate product design.
  • Document product designs by preparing bills of materials, cost analyses, drawings, and engineering change requests (ECRs).
  • Work with suppliers to improve quality and resolve product issues.
  • Provide technical expertise and support for manufacturing and field issues.
  • Support agency certifications for both safety (UL, ETL) and performance (DOE, AHRI).
  • Interface with regulatory agencies and test agencies such as ASHRAE, AHRI, UL and ETL
  • Mentor team members to prepare them for greater responsibility within the organization.
  • Perform additional project / job duties as required by Management.


Qualifications

Nature & Scope:
  • May provide guidance, mentor - serve as knowledge expert
  • Lead projects from inception to completion while meeting quality, safety, testing, costs and on time delivery expectations

Knowledge & Skills:
  • Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of mechanical design engineering theory and practice.
  • Knowledge of specifications and international standards used in the Global HVAC industry
  • Knowledge of refrigeration and/or air conditioning design and application with specific emphasis on international production
  • Demonstrated capability of leading engineers to complete projects on time, cost and quality
  • Experience with design for six sigma (DFSS), design failure modes and effects analysis (DFMEA), design of experiments methodology, tolerance analysis, value engineering principles, and parts standardization principles.
  • Working knowledge with computer simulations and 3D CAD systems
  • Proficient software skills including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project.
  • Strong and effective project management skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize and complete projects on time
  • Effective communication skills; clearly convey and transmit information through written and verbal form including business acumen and ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong team player, results orientated, dedication to excellence and sense of urgency to achieve business objectives.
  • Ability to use good judgement and strong work ethics and integrity on the job.

Experience:
  • 8 plus years of progressive HVAC industry related experience with product design, development and launch
  • 5 plus years of project management experience

Education:
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial/Product Design or related engineering degree, MS preferred.
  • Six Sigma certification - preferred / Black belt or green belt certification - preferred
