Clinical Appeals Representative is responsible for the development of relationships with behavioral health providers / groups / facilities in order to improve and monitor their clinical effectiveness and efficiency, as well as compliance with contractual obligations. This team works closely with Care Advocacy Operations, Network Management, and Program and Network Integrity teams to ensure coordination, effectiveness, and efficiency.

This position is full-time (40 hours/week) Monday - Friday. Employees are required to work our normal business hours of 8:00am - 5:00pm. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime or weekends.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Support Optum Practice Management by completing program operations administrative activities.
  • Processing and managing documents received, completing data entry, tracking necessary data, outreaching providers to obtain needed information, and other administrative duties as needed.
  • Using the computer and phone to complete your job duties.
  • Work closely with Practice Management staff, who are Behavioral Health Clinicians, to support Practice Management activities.

This is high volume, customer service environment. You'll need to be efficient, productive and thorough dealing with our members over the phone. You also must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes evening hours.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma / GED (or higher)
  • 2+ years of customer service experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word (copy, paste, save, edit), Microsoft Excel (save, edit, copy, paste), and Microsoft Outlook (send, receive, schedule)
  • 2+ years of Behavioral Health and/or Managed Care experience
  • Medical Record Management experience
  • Proficient in using computer and telephone as the primary instruments to perform the job duties

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree (or higher)
  • Experience working within the health care Industry and with health care insurance
  • Experience working in a hospital, physician's office or medical clinic setting
  • A clerical or administrative support background

Telecommuting Requirements:
  • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
  • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
  • Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service

  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $17.12 - $30.34. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $18.80 - $33.41.
