Engineering Design Manager


  • Responsible for the project design function of the Engineering Services Department, which includes engineering design, surveying, CAD drafting, and technical support. Provides leadership, management, mentoring, collaboration, and technical oversight of the subordinate engineers, architects, and draftsmen which make up the project design team. Develops and manages the installation's design program. Develops and maintains the design schedule. Develops and manages a design man-hour budget for the program and coordinates with subcontractor project managers for project timelines. Ensures quality assurance of all designs. Reviews all department design products for technical accuracy, completeness, and conformity to applicable codes and regulations, and the requirements of the using agency. Ensures project current working estimates (CWE) of each are complete and accurate. Supervises CAD Drafting section.


  • Leads and coordinates the efforts of the engineering department design team. Establishes design goals and schedules to meet contract requirements. Ensures all work is performed using AutoCAD software and complies with Tri-Service Standards.
  • Assists the Contract Programmer with the development of the contract documentation required to support the MILCON call and the command's RPMC program. Assists with updating ACES and meeting all suspenses.
  • Ensures all projects that have been approved by the base Facility Board are incorporated into the design program and prioritized and designed as directed.
  • Prepares or oversees the preparation of engineering statements of work, design drawings, specifications, CWE, and associated contract documents required for acquisition. Stamps drawings with registration stamp for work that the Engineering Design Manager is responsible for, or ensures work performed by others, is stamped by the responsible design engineer or architect IAW state requirements.
  • Ensures draftsmen update record drawings (as-builts).
  • Candidate must be capable of spending a portion of his/her day performing design services as required to meet design schedule demands.
  • Ensures company personnel meet all design deadlines and requirements.
  • Briefs leadership, base personnel, contracting and company personnel on all aspects of design and prepares written briefs/updates in using Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Qualifications

    • Education/Certifications (One-year of related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required): Bachelor of Science Degree in one of the core engineering disciplines (Civil, Structural, Electrical, or Mechanical). Graduate degree work a plus. Professional Licensing as a Professional Engineer required.
    • Experience: Minimum three years' experience either an Engineer-in-Training/Junior Engineer or Licensed Professional Engineer. Supervisory experience preferred.
