Medical Science Liaison Lead - Coagulation

As a Coagulation Medical Science Liaison Lead, you'll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients' lives.

AstraZeneca holds a unique position in the coagulation space by leading medical education and research on the only available reversal agent (andexanet alfa) to treat life threatening bleeds in factor Xa inhibitors. Annually there are more than 150,000 hospitalizations and 25,000 deaths due to bleeding related to FXa inhibitors in the United states elevating the urgency to educate providers across the country.

Typical Accountabilities:

The Coagulation MSL Lead is responsible for the execution of Medical Affairs strategy in support of the organization's business strategy and objectives. As the Coagulation MSL Lead, you are also accountable for leading and managing Field Medical Affairs resources in collaboration with Medical Affairs Leadership.

In this role, you will develop and lead the field-based Coagulation Medical (MSL) team in support of therapeutic area and brand medical plans. The Coagulation MSL Lead will ensure the MSL team delivers customer outcomes through execution of Medical Affairs deliverables for assigned brands(s) and contribute as a member of Medical Affairs workstream(s) representing field and customer perspective.

Additional accountabilities will include providing guidance on collection of medical insight and communicate actionable items to internal stakeholders as appropriate; lead and manage change initiatives as needed in the field to enable positive business outcomes; serve as a role model fostering personal accountability and ownership of individual and team success; manage performance of direct reports - including recruiting, hiring and retention.

The Coagulation MSL Lead will also facilitate scientific and skill training as well as professional development for direct reports while also providing timely feedback and coaching to MSLs to improve performance and business impact.

You will also foster a culture of innovation and collaboration; manage and oversee team financial resources and oversee direct report compliance with all guidelines and policies.

Essential Requirements:
  • Advanced Clinical/Science Degree required (e.g., MD, PharmD, PhD, MSN, NP, PA, etc.). BSN with extensive clinical experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in pharmaceutical industry preferably leading Field Medical Affairs teams or as member of a Field Medical Affairs team with strong leadership capabilities
  • Experience in product launch development and execution
  • Experience with product strategy development and execution
  • Demonstrated expertise in drug information communication
  • Strong entrepreneurial spirit
  • Thorough knowledge of FDA requirements
  • Basic knowledge/understanding of health economic principles and clinical trials
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel


Desirable Requirements:
  • Previous management experience in Medical Affairs or Clinical Development
  • 3-4 years of pharmaceutical Medical Science Liaison experience
  • Ideal locations are Major Northeast City (Boston, NYC, etc)
