Manager, Radiological Programs

We have an exciting opportunity for a Manager of Radiological Programs to join Argonne's Radiological Protection Program (RPP)!

In this role you will:
  • Implement Argonne's Radiological Protection Program (RPP) and the requirements of 10 CFR 835
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for the Radiological Protection Program
  • Manage health physics services provided to the research programs at the Laboratory as well as various programs within the RPP (e.g. Radiation Generating Devices, Sealed Radioactive Sources, etc.)
  • Directly manage 4-6 Health Physicists in the RPP
  • Engage with peers and division management among both internal and external organizations to successfully fulfill the Laboratory's mission
  • Propose and execute technical and operational strategies to meet RPP objectives, division goals, and project deadlines
  • Develop policies and procedures to effectively implement the RPP ensuring a high degree of quality and customer service
  • Reports to the Radiological Safety Officer

Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Physics (or a related field) + 9 years of experience, or equivalent. Master's Degree is preferred.
  • At least 7 years practical experience implementing regulations, requirements and recommendations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of health physics and radiation protection theory and practice for the use of radioactive material and machine produced radiation.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of DOE regulation for occupational radiation protection; of ANSI, NCRP and other advisory body recommendations.
  • Ability to supervise and mentor a team of radiological subject matter experts; including distribution of work assignments, resource allocation, and management of operations teams to adhere to the Laboratory's policies and procedures.
  • Will act as the Radiological Safety Officer when the RSO and Deputy RSO are not on site.
  • Considerable communication skills to effectively communicate problems and solutions to workers and management, both orally and in writing; and maintain interpersonal relations are essential.
  • In addition to the above, this position will be required to effectively integrate activities across multiple areas by generating consensus-based decisions and using influence with multiple Divisions and Directorates at Argonne.
  • Effective utilization of stakeholder engagement at the worker level, up to and including at the Division Director level is a key attribute needed to be successful in this position.
  • Considerable ability to work on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of business trends and organizational objectives.
  • Good experience in a customer service environment is highly desirable.
