Job Description

The Discovery Biologics organization in Boston is seeking a Scientist to join our Biologics Engineering group. The successful candidate will express and purify high quality protein reagents to support our company's therapeutic area discovery programs including immunology, oncology, cardiometabolic diseases, neuroscience, and infectious diseases. The scientist is expected to have knowledge and understanding in protein chemistry and common chromatographic methods used for isolating proteins

Responsibilities
  • Recombinant protein expression and optimization in E. coli and mammalian cells
  • Protein purification using automated FPLC equipment and various chromatography methods, including affinity, charge and size-based separations
  • Preliminary expression and in process analytical characterization using SDS-PAGE, western blot, and SEC
  • Present information and data to cross functional teams and collaborate with biologics discovery and protein analytics/characterization teams to advance biologics pipeline


Education Requirements
  • BS/MS in biology, biochemistry, biophysics, biological engineering, or a related discipline


Experience and Skills

Required
  • Minimum two years research in an industrial setting
  • Bacterial and mammalian (HEK293, CHO) cell culture experience at small and liter scale in a BSL-2 environment
  • Protein purification experience using the common chromatographic methods such as IMAC, protein A, IEX, HIC and preparative SEC
  • Proven ability to design and execute protein purification experiments independently


Preferred
  • AKTA purification system
  • High throughput automated liquid handling systems
  • Knowledge of antibody discovery and biologic drug development
  • Familiarity with protein analytical characterization assays and equipment
  • Ability to collect and analyze experimental data, knowledge of python scripting is a plus
