Job Description

Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and 2 years' experience OR Master's degree and 0 years' experience OR PDP apprentice certificate and 1 year of engineering experience. Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Preferred Qualifications

Be part of the next submarine design! This position supports the development of the next submarine propulsion plant. The candidate should have familiarity with power generation and distribution through course work and/or experience. Specific experience in the design of one or more of the following areas is desired: power electronics, motors, motor drives, generators and protection systems and devices. Familiarity with submarine or carrier propulsion plant arrangement, operation and construction is desirable but not required. The candidate should have familiarity with utilizing electrical modeling and development tools including MATLAB/Simulink. The candidate should have some experience working on technical projects under an overall technical lead and should have good written and verbal communication skills.
