Role:

The Associate Manager role is new within the Communications team that supports Prudential’s Inclusive Solutions function, which promotes inclusive economic growth and is comprised of: ‘Social Responsibility and Partnerships,’ ‘Culture, Diversity and Engagement,’ and strategy-setting for the ‘Impact & Responsible Investing’ portfolio. This Associate Manager role will primarily support Prudential’s goals for ‘Culture, Diversity & Engagement’ by bringing strategic communications to life in a way that strengthens enterprise culture and connects Prudential’s workforce to the company’s purpose.

Prudential aspires to embed its five culture aspirations·customer obsessed, fully inclusive, outcomes driven, risk smart, and tech forward·into everyday behaviors and decision making across the enterprise. The Associate Manager will execute creative multi-channel communications programs to support that goal, working closely with colleagues across Prudential Communications as well as leaders and subject matter experts in multiple areas, including: corporate social responsibility; legal and external affairs; diversity, equity and inclusion; talent acquisition and mobility, and issues management.

In this role you will:
  • Translate communications strategies into first drafts of messages, talking points, newsletters, and presentations. Lead the reconciliation process of stakeholder feedback and serve as the point person for creative production (proofing, legal and compliance review, graphic design).
  • Develop and execute communications campaigns to support employee engagement programs such as: inclusion training, employee sentiment surveys, self-identification initiatives, disaster relief matching gift efforts, etc. Provide oversight for development of content assets to support campaigns.
  • Equip colleagues across the Prudential Communications function with packaged tools and information about our diversity, equity and inclusion efforts to help them effectively advocate for our company.
  • Liaise with employee business resource groups (BRGs), building the communications capability across the BRGs and coordinating with BRG communicators on messaging and activities.
  • Interpret relevant topics from external news, social media, and competitive environment to identify oncoming issues, trends, and best practices that inform and inspire our work.
  • Provide Communications support for events through the development of speak prep materials, overseeing communications collateral, leading attendance campaigns, and creating and attendees feedback surveys, etc.
  • Represent the Inclusive Solutions Communications team at internal meetings on topics such as social media, marketing, public website, intranet, etc.
  • Update community and industry partners (e.g., City of Newark or JUST Capital), and media partners (like Diversity Best Practices) about Prudential’s activities for heritage months. Communications lead supporting relevant Awards and Rankings.
  • Measure and report effectiveness of communications to help inform new strategies.


Desired knowledge and abilities:
  • Familiar with inclusion racial equity terms and concepts, and working knowledge of best practices in diversity, equity, and inclusion communications.
  • Ability to distill complex ideas into simple messages for employees and other stakeholders while maintaining fidelity to nuance and accuracy.
  • Ability to create clear, engaging written communications starting from a blank page including mass emails, speeches, newsletters, talking points, website copy, presentations, etc.
  • Resourcefulness, attention to detail, and project management to move many simultaneous, complex projects to completion, especially when sourcing content from disparate sources or securing approvals from many stakeholders.
  • Sound judgement as to when to make decisions independently and when to escalate to managers.
  • Relationship management skills, including ability to drive healthy discussions around complex issues, and to persuade others to move in a desired direction; strong active listening skills.
  • Partnering skills (interpersonal and using collaborative technical tools) with desire to work with others in an inclusive manner. Ability to work in a matrixed environment.
  • Ability to gather, synthetize and analyze data to support strategy-setting and decision-making.


Qualifications
  • Minimum 6 years of professional communications experience, ideally communications in the areas of purpose, inclusion, and culture building.
  • Experience working with human resources, employee engagement programs, employee resource groups, and corporate philanthropy is desired.
  • Outstanding writing and editing skills; ability to identify, tell, and share great stories.
  • Ability to navigate complex organizations and interface professionally with senior leaders.
  • High level of independence and energy; respects diversity of opinions and styles; accepts accountability and responsibility.
  • Detail- and solutions oriented; excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize high volume, high priority initiatives with care in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • A team player who is willing to contribute on both a strategic and tactical level.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Suite: Word, Teams, SharePoint file-sharing, PowerPoint, and occasional Excel.
  • Will consider virtual/remote candidates (monthly travel to HQ in Newark, NJ).
