Department Overview

The Cloud Infrastructure Engineering team is responsible for the development and operations of critical cloud infrastructure and platform services, in support of Motorola Solutions' public and hybrid cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions for public safety customers. This team is part of Motorola Solutions’ Software Enterprise division, which offers secure, reliable and efficient team communications, workflow and operational intelligence solutions for mission critical public safety and enterprise markets throughout the world. Our services leverage Cloud Computing infrastructure on Azure to build at scale.


Job Description

This position is open to all remote candidates based in the US.

The Cloud Infrastructure Engineering team is responsible for:

  • Design and implementation of the continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipeline into multiple public cloud regions

  • Development and operation of common platform services that can be leveraged by our SaaS solutions moving forward

  • Overall reliability and security of these services and the environments they are run in

  • Monitoring and support for these platform and infrastructure services, as well as metrics collection and reporting related to them

As a Sr Staff Software Engineer on this team,

you will be a key contributor to our product development and operational support activities. This team is developing frameworks, services, tools, and processes to support other Motorola Solutions' engineering teams as well as deliver solutions to our customers. You will be working on a high-velocity, results-oriented team that leverages cutting-edge technologies and techniques. The right individual will be motivated and will have a passion for cloud platform development and operationalization, deployment processes, and enabling innovation. Your efforts will help to shape the engineering culture and best practices across Motorola Solutions’ Software Enterprise organization.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Network, cloud and security design and implementation of core services used by our Public Safety cloud solutions

  • Support cloud platform operations and sovereign operations including issue troubleshooting and resolution

  • Define and meet scalability, availability, security, and performance goals

  • Rapidly build and evolve major features in collaboration with product management

  • Research and experiment with key technologies, architectures, and standards

  • Attend daily stand-up meetings, collaborate with peers, prioritize features, and work with a sense of urgency to deliver value to customers

  • Understand complex technical details

  • Assist in reviews and audits conducted at various points in the software life cycle

Qualifications:

  • Experience with web infrastructure and distributed systems; Background on services and cloud computing (Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services) a plus

  • Familiarity with modern development operations tooling (Trace based application performance monitoring, docker containers, ELK, Prometheus and similar)

  • Solid coding and service development skills, with experience in at least one of the following toolsets or languages: Java, Node.js, GoLang, Python

  • Excellent communications skills and the ability to present complex topics to nontechnical audiences

  • Experience mentoring more junior team members and leading development work by example

  • Familiarity with Public Safety systems a plus

  • Excellent skills in databases

  • Experience in doing complex system designs

  • Must be a US Citizen

This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.

Basic Requirements

  • 7+ years of combined experience in Software Engineering, Cloud Engineering, or Computer Science

  • Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customer
