The objective of the Student Programs at Nexteer Automotive is to select students with high potential and provide them with "real world" work experiences. Work assignments expose students to many of the company’s products, processes and procedures. Assignments are designed to assimilate acquired classroom education with actual hands-on work experience in a technical environment. In addition, Nexteer Automotive gains the opportunity to find new talent to enhance productivity while providing students exposure to full-time career opportunities.

In This Role You Will:

  • Assist in Electrical Power Steering (EPS) software build plans, controller software and calibration update activities to support customer samples and vehicle testing, validation, and production.
  • Assists in EPS trouble shooting activities using: CANalyzer, CANape, CANoe, oscilloscope, and custom-made software tools like eTool, eCalNet.
  • Assists in updates to System Electrical Requirements (SER) per Customer design changes and anomalies.
  • Assists in creation of DFMEAs, Design Reviews, and validation plans.
  • Supports electrical validation testing.
  • Assists with customer communication of anomalies, software changes, samples, validation updates.
  • Assists in the creation and testing of Controller Assembly specifications.
  • Attend Customer and Internal Electrical Product Development Team meetings.
  • Assist in reflash activities
  • Assist in the creation of connectors for controllers.

Job Requirements:

  • Candidate must be attending a 4 year university local to Saginaw
  • Must be a full-time student (12 credits) during Fall and Winter semesters
  • Must be studying Electrical Engineering or Computer Science​
  • Must have a 2.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Must have the ability to work 20-32 hours per week during the Fall/Winter semesters
    • Able to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
  • Flexible scheduling
  • Proficient with Microsoft Operating Systems and Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Experience performing engineering calculations using MATLAB/Simulink Microsoft Excel
  • Highly motivated with strong communication skills and a desire to work with people in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Experience:

  • Programming experience using C, C#, or Visual Basic
  • Familiarity with Vector Communication tools that apply to CAN networks (CANalyzer, CANape, CANoe)
  • Fundamental understanding of the engineering development V model
  • Fundamental understanding of vehicle dynamics, mechanical systems, electronic systems, and computer hardware and software
