2023 Industrial Engineering Summer Internship
The objective of the Student Programs at Nexteer Automotive is to select students with high potential and provide them with "real world" work experiences. Work assignments expose students to many of the company’s products, processes and procedures. Assignments are designed to assimilate acquired classroom education with actual hands-on work experience in a technical environment. In addition, Nexteer Automotive gains the opportunity to find new talent to enhance productivity while providing students exposure to full-time career opportunities.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop continuous improvement plans for areas of responsibility
- Perform data collection studies as required (time studies, downtime studies, etc)
- Analyze departments using Manufacturing System Design Tool set and other analytical tools to establish priorities for department improvement efforts
- Implement Nexteer Production System best practices and common systems
- Ensure machines and operators are working at the standard production rates; be able to troubleshoot any problems
- Maintain process documentation (MSD, standardized work, routings, layouts)
- Support Engineers on processing and reviewing data
- Assist in design of manufacturing value stream and analysis to ensure built in quality, high capacity and resource utilization.
- Analyze value stream costs and determine how to improve
- Analyze manufacturing capacity and utilization
- Design standardized work to support the manufacturing sequence, prepare documentation to support, and communicate to plant personnel
- Address assigned ergonomic and other health and safety concerns
Job may vary dependent upon intern, Supervisor and company needs.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Candidate must be attending a 4-year university
- Candidate must be pursuing a Bachelor’s in Industrial Engineering
- Candidate must be able to work 40 hours per week
- Must have cumulative 2.7 GPA on 4.0 scale
- Must be a full-time student (12 or more credits for following Fall semester)
- Candidate must have right to work in the US and not require current or future sponsorship
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Experience completing time studies
- Lean Manufacturing knowledge
- CAD
- Simulation knowledge
- Strong excel skills
