Manager, State Income Tax
Job Description
769 million. That’s how many lives our products touched in 2020. Novartis is seeking a Manager, State Income Tax based out of our East Hanover, NJ site. In this position you will assist the tax operation function, including reporting and compliance focusing on state income tax reporting and compliance.
Your Key Responsibilities:
• Assist with the preparation of State and Local income tax income returns, including the state proforma return of assigned subsidiaries, preparation of state quarterly estimated tax payments and state extension calculation.
• Prepare state apportionment for assigned subsidiaries and unitary apportionment
• Assists with ensuring that the tax function, in conjunction with accounting, is compliant with the requirements and procedures established under Sarbanes Oxley (‘SOX’). This includes maintaining tax internal controls by recommending and documenting tax policies and procedures.
• Identify, research and analyze tax issues and planning opportunities.
• Work with managers and director on various state and federal special projects. For example- research tax credit study, financial analysis of intercompany transactions, acquisitions, FDII and other credits and incentives, state conformity studies.
• Assist with responses in support of the tax notices and audits in various US jurisdictions. Perform research (factual and technical) to assist with tax audits. This would also include assistance with state and local nexus inquiries.
• Tax Accounting – Support of the calculation of US federal and state ETR drivers and support the overall tax quarterly provision process and forecast. Assist with all monthly general ledger tax account reconciliations and the preparation of related journal entries (federal and state).
• Assist with the preparation of special tax related analyses and reports, by collecting and analyzing financial data and information.
• Maintain tax technical skills by keeping current with new tax laws and proposed tax legislation, attending tax and related seminars, reviewing professional publications, participating in professional societies, and establishing personal networks.
• Assist with the implementation of tax system upgrades and enhancements by coordinating activities between IT support and parent/corporate, gaining appropriate understanding of the system changes and developing/revising documented procedures (including SOX documentation).
