Product Owner

We are seeking a Product Owner (PO) who will be responsible for owning and executing key components of the product development process. This includes researching competitive features, creating user stories, writing acceptance criteria and coordinating activities across the development squads. This includes developing detailed work plans, running scrum product meetings, and communicating updates to stakeholders and assisting with any training upon completion, as needed. Responsibilities include developing strong relationships with key partners across the Upwise leadership team and beyond, including Design, / Engineering, Marketing, Legal/Compliance, DevOps teams, other POs, other program management resources, business intelligence resources, etc. The PO will participate in creating the Upwise future strategy and assist the Product team in developing and implementing the roadmap. 

The candidate must be passionate about our purpose, a proven change agent with the ability to build alignment across multiple stakeholder groups, and the proven ability to execute. Upwise launched in August 2021 and will iterates using an agile approach. It will be the Product Owner’s responsibility to support the Upwise squads, working side by side with dDesign and engineering Engineering to define and translate the customer needs and MetLife’s business objectives into a fully developed solution. The Product Owner will work closely with Upwise Product Managers, to assist with day-to-day tasks needed to ship the product.

This role will report to the AVP, Head of Digital Product Manager, Upwise Financial Wellness & Engagement (FW&E, and will work closely with the multidisciplinary team tasked with developing and operating the financial wellness digital platform and ecosystem. The Product Owner will be accountable for driving key deliverables within the sprints, including coordination of user testing, design, and development milestones to ensure deliverables are met across Upwise. 

Key Responsibilities:

Business and Operational

  • Working directly with Product Managers to develop and monitor key user metrics. 

  • Responsible for working closely with the onshore and offshore development teams

  • Assist in coordination of all squad activities and ceremonies including sprintg planning, grooming, demos, reviews, and stand-ups

  • Working within the agile processes, development of user stories, and detailed acceptance criteria

  • Provides support to Product leadership creating future release strategies and, roadmap planning

  • Consults with key internal partners across Content, Customer Success, Partnerships, etc. to develop best in class features and functionality across the Upwise user experience. 

  • Partners Collaborate with other areas across the Financial Wellness & Engagement organization and key partners to build strong working relationships and improve workflow and maximize efficiencies – including Global Technology & Ops, Upwise DevOps, Legal and Compliance teams 

  • Develop business cases for key platform components (e.g., user journeys) seeking opportunities to expand revenue drivers

  • Collaborate with FW&E leadership and stakeholders on day-to-day execution as well as long-term strategic direction

  • Provide thought leadership to the internal team and drive focus on the product

  • Passion for financial wellness, an internal and external champion for the product  

  • Promote a culture of experimentation, and proponent for agile ways of working 

  • Mentor junior team members and motivate the broader team to acquire new skill-sets 

  • Effectively align resources to achieve key business priorities

  • Strong catalyst for change, ability to reimagine the way customers interact with MetLife

Candidate Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of related product experience, mobile software product experience preferred

  • Proven ability to operate in matrixed and cross functional teams

  • Successful track record in defining the strategic intent, and strong problem-solving skills

  • Strong analytical, complex problem solving, decision-making and strong leadership skills

  • Excellent communication – both verbal and written

  • Excellent planning and organization skills

  • Familiar with tools such as Azure Boards, Jira, Confluence, Figma, Adobe XD, and Miro

  • Undergraduate degree required, relevant additional degrees or courses preferred MBA or equivalent degree highly preferred

The wage range for applicants for this position is $101-134K. This role is also eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation. MetLife offers a comprehensive benefits program, including healthcare benefits, life insurance, retirement benefits, parental leave, legal plan services and paid time off.
