Applied Technology is a rapid prototyping center within Motorola Solutions. We create proof-of-concept and lower-volume specialty communications products for government and private industry using wireless technologies such as TETRA, LMR, GSM, UMTS, CDMA, WiFi, LTE and embedded systems. Job Description
The Sr. Linux/Storage Administrator will be responsible for supporting, configuring, and improving Applied Technology’s enterprise Linux and Storage environment. This will involve supporting both server and desktop Linux environments and supporting the Applied Technology staff with day to day issues. This individual will ensure the stability, integrity, security, and efficient operation of critical infrastructure and services in support of core organizational functions and will be a subject matter expert for Linux and Storage technologies. The position will also need to adhere to strict network security policies and baselines to comply with government regulations and standards.
Scope of Responsibilities / Expectations
Plan, design, implement, and support multiple Linux Desktop and Server environments in an enterprise setting (Ubuntu / RedHat)
Plan, design, implement, and support enterprise NAS storage environments (NetApp, Pure, Synology)
Plan, design, implement, and support cloud technology environments (AWS)
Manage DevOps applications such as the Atlassian Tool Suites (Jira / Confluence / BitBucket)
Perform Tier 2-3 support within Applied Technology to resolve Linux issues for end users and system administrators
Support maintenance window activities on production networks when required
Adhere to government security regulations such as NIST 800-171 and CMMC
Mentoring or providing guidance to other IT team members in executing tasks related to Linux and storage components
Ensuring technology documents/certificates such as product registrations, licensing, activations, SSL certificates, maintenance agreements, service contracts, etc. related to technology operations and/or technology services are evaluated, updated, and processed
Create and maintain accurate system documentation and baseline configurations
Work with vendors to understand applications of their products as it relates to system designs, and determine the most economically feasible solution to meet expectations within established guidelines
Study industry trends and information on technological advances and make recommendations on application of these technologies for standard use in the company’s environment to include technical briefings to upper level management.
Self-sufficient and have the ability to make engineering decisions within the documented process
Demonstrated ability to systematically troubleshoot problems in complex systems
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent verbal, customer service, and interpersonal skills
Strong documentation skills and experience generating technical documents, diagrams, solutions specifications, guidelines, processes, and procedures
Ability to organize, prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines with a can-do attitude
Flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities and tight timelines
Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 40 pounds
Ability to support Applied Technology’s bi-monthly scheduled downtimes
Desired Experience
5+ Years of hands on administration experience of Unix/Linux system management (Ubuntu and/or RedHat preferred)
3+ Years of hands on experience with enterprise based storage solutions (NetApp / EMC a plus),
Experience with configuration management and automation systems such as Puppet/Chef/Ansible
Excellent understanding of storage protocols and technologies (iSCSI / NFS / CIFS / RAID / Aggregates / Volumes / etc)
Experience with the setup and configuration of cloud computing technologies and services (AWS / Azure)
Expert experience with scripting languages needed for day-to-day management of systems (Bash/shell, Python, etc.)
Experience with NIST 800-171 or CMMC is highly desirable
Experience with containerized environments such as Docker or Kubernetes is a plus
Basic Requirements
Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain the necessary U.S. Government security clearances as required by government contracts
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or other related studies
